I am looking at getting a new cr01 ina few days and was wondering what kind of battery others are running? I would like to get one that lasts fora while so i could run fora while without stopping. the rig is gona stay stock electronically fora while......and if possible i dont want to spend an arm and a leg to get a decent battery......thanx

I ran Duratrax NiMh DTX-4200 packs for awhile in my CR-01. I had no problems and awesome run times. ( you can't beat them for the $$ ) I'm using a Maxamps 6000mah 2s Lipo now.

by awesome run times, how long are we talking? and was your cr01 all stock?

I can get about an hour with a GP3300 6 cell pack and the stock motor. Depends how you drive it, slow all the time, or short bursts of speed through the woods, or constant flooring it for some reason.

i jusordered a Duratrax NiMh DTX 4200, so should that give me longer run times than your GP300? i will mostly be goin slow n tryin to learn to crawl........ :ror:

Ansmann 4500mAh NiMH 6-sticks. I have a couple of GP 3300mAh NiMHs which I occasionally use as spares.

im sorry quickster47, but i dont get what you are talking about, the mix of words and numbers you use confused me....... :?

Lipo ,he's running a lipo ,4000mah capacity, 100 amp max draw on the pack - safely.
I run a 2s2p Lion , I stole the cells from one of my Makita 18v ion pack that went dead, 3 cells went down the tube, So I took 4 of the remaining 7 and made a 7.4v, 3000 mah pack, Half the weight of a 3000 nimh, which is good since the battery location in stock form is rather high,I can pull 20 amps safely, and charge it in under 20 minutes "thumbsup"

ok thanx, like i stated earlier i got a duratrax dtx4600 on the way as well as a duratrax charger......should that work ok? and what exactly does the amp draw do or mean based on the battery that i got? if you kno...... idono how to build batteries or anything like that so thats why i ordered that one....... and all this lipo, cell, amps talk makes no sense to me

Your choice should be fine,to build packs is not hard, once you get the hang of it, I build packs for just about everything I own, I am even converting some of my nicad/nimh based cordless power tools to lithuim ion and lifepo4- a123 cells -google it if you want.
The + of lithuim batts are
Less weight for same run time
No memory effect or very very little
Faster charge rate
The - of lithium are
More $$$$ just for the batts
Can be fire prone if care and use steps not followed
More $$$ chargers
Crawlers dont have high amp draw since it's all in the gearing.
A few things get a strong steering servo,2 of your gonna rear steering- frt steering sucks badly, Toward Pros MGR946 are cheap and a great bang for the buck- jpcustomrcs.com -get a Castle creations BEC ,dont get the novak not enough amps, the castle has 10 amps capacity, the novak only 5, also get the Castle link for the bec, then you can program the voltage.

so you're saying that only if i decide to get rear steering to get the castle creation bec? and if i were tohave someone build me a battery like the ones you make (hint hint) ;-) i would have to upgrade to a new charger too or not?

I would run the Castle bec no matter, most esc bec may only go up to 5 amps.
As for building packs, I barely have enough time to build my own,If you go to lithuim, you will need a charger capable of charging lithuim, then it depends on how much you want to spend , there are lithuim only chargers, then there's do all chargers, they charge lithuim, nimh, nicad and car batterys "thumbsup"
