BWD Tripple S ...yes another one!

It’s been together for a bit but I finally got a chance to spend some time figuring out how to drive it and tried a couple of different tire/wheel/foam combos. The more I drive it the more I like it! I started too light on the wheel weights and it kept flipping over when articulating, but more weight (the Mayhem ball bearing weight system works well on this truck) cured that… it climbs like a goat! Cougars didn’t give enough belly clearance so I’ve stuck to the taller Rovers & Leopards. I have some DNA Psychos to try too. I’m still better with my Berg all around, but this rig is a blast to run and will do some amazing stuff. I’m glad Don will continue to support and develop this concept; it’s a unique, functional and super-clean design.

The build:

nice idea on the FXR Capacitor "thumbsup"

Nice and clean rig, did you drill the slipper plates for the B4 slipper or change the top shaft?

Nice job, I like the steering link"thumbsup"

Have you broke it yet?

How is the body mounts on axle working for ya? I thought about doing it on mine, but it seemed like the body was going to twist alittle much for my taste.

Looks good"thumbsup", did you mount that left front tire on backwards for a reason?:ror:

I kept squashing the cap 'cause the body's so low, I may change it to some super-flex wire like I did on my Berg and tuck it in somewhere... sometimes, if I get the body really jammed-up it'll unplug the cap.

It's an Associated top shaft with machined bearing spacers/cups for the non-metric bearings.

Have you broke it yet?

No, I've been breaking my Berg"thumbsup" The Eritex DIG is working better the more I abuse it though. May not need to change to the VP!

The rear mount is done with a rubber band!!! and a piece of foam... so the body doesn't really twist, it pivots with the front axle. So far it works well even when being tortured with the truck upside down. Needs more testing though, I'll probably find a problem.

did you mount that left front tire on backwards for a reason?
Of course! It won't climb otherwise, I thought everybody knew that...
...the other reason is I'm an a$$-clown and f'd up!

How you liking the Outrage lipo?

I'm liking them a lot, good power to the last drop and plenty of snap. They made a huge difference in my Losi CC. Just getting to the Hyperion G3s now, it'll be interesting to see how they compare.

As nice as those Outrage packs are, and in my opinion, they were the good stuffs, the new Hyperions are better, clearly.

And that 5C charge rate is so awesome.

I've never learned how to drive & shoot pics at the same time....
I always forget to bring a camera... etc etc etc..
I'll give it a shot though cause I agree, it doesn't look right sitting on a table!

man as much as i love my gc-2 i really want to try one of these sss chassis. looks like it would be much easier to setup a well working bta and also have huge steering angles possible.
do u have any problems with durability ? mainly the derlin spring link part?

Well, sort of. The SSS is set-up for BTA so I just made parts to fit my servo etc.. The tie rod is 6061 milled from 3/16' sheet, the servo mounts are machined Delrin bar stock. I made a new battery tray because the holes in the stock one didn't work with where I wanted the servo and I wanted to try to include the front body mounts... I also needed clearance for the links when mounted on top so the link mounting holes needed material cut away around them and a chamfer on the back edge. I moved the link mounting holes a couple of mm closer together than the standard innermost pair as well. I had to make a couple of plates to get it right. The whole thing works because of the basic design of the chassis though.

Well that was really nice of you to build that for me. Now send it over so I can thrash on it!
Good job, but why all that money in good gear and then the old school Reciever?
