Video

A music video by Montreal punk rockers Simple Plan is being applauded by Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

In Untitled (How Could This Happen To Me?) a drunk driver slams into another car, killing a pretty young girl. The driver survives. The girl's family is devastated.

"The video is heart-wrenching and brings the cold realities of an impaired driving crash into perspective," said Karen Dunham, president of MADD Canada.

The advocacy group is planning to use the video in its efforts to teach youth about the dangers of drinking under the influence of alcohol.

For their part, Simple Plan is donating $1 to the organization every time the video is aired on MuchMusic and MTV2, as well as for every spin on radio during June to coincide with prom season.

"Over the last few years, a lot of people we know have been involved in tragic accidents caused by drinking and driving," the band said in a letter to fans.

So be careful out there guys, make smart choices for yourself and others.

In my younger years I did alot of stupid s#!t. I sit back and think about how stupid, unsafe, ignorant, selfish and irresponsible I was from just before graduating high school (92) til about 5 years ago, and I make myself cringe. I have friends who Drink and Drive and try and explain to them just why I would turn them in for it (usually don't know til after the fact). If I knew then what I know now.........

BE SAFE, and make sure your friends do too!

Living in this part of Ky we get alot of this stupid shit-had one prick jumped a 4 foot wide ditch, drove through the yard, and attempted to scale a retaining wall. This is with a trailer behind his flat bed rig with two cars on it. Luckily he busted a nuckle and was on three wheels most of the time. I got him out of the truck and the SOB couldnt even stand up-what the hell was this dude doing in a big ass truck?!

He ended up paying our property dammages, spending a night in jail and got his license suspended for 6 mounths. Of corse we saw him driving the same road three days later.

Last saturday (not yesterday), 2 kids were killed her in my town. It wasn't alcohol related, but they were street racing (the one car was just passing the other as they say, but whats the need to do 80 to pass som1 on a 50mph road?), they were racing onto a null, a lady was in a denali, these 2 kids in a honda CRX and some other car, and this lady was stopped, turning into her driveway, and these kids swerved over, hit her head on at 80 in that little CRX and she was stopped. You can see where they tryed to swerve back over in time and stop as well, but, you can't slow down from 80 in 2 seconds...

The car that was being passed flew on by the wreck, stopped, came back, and they were taking pictures of the wreck on their cell phone, but they said they were calling the cops. I don't see how anyone in their right mind can go back, and take pictures of somone that just got mutilated in wreck not 3 mins ago, I'm sorry but thats a thing to go to hell for!

Things that have been mentioned about the wreck are, the driver got the engine pushed threw his chest, cut off both his arms, both his legs, and the passenger, they couldn't even find his lower jaw...and one of the kids, his whole left side of his face had to be reconstructed.

Both of these kids went to the local highschool, and my cousin use to hang out with. The night before the wreck, the driver of the CRX was telling my cousin how much a POS his chevy truck was, and that he need buy this CRX. They woke up the next day, and heard on the news that that guy got killed...

So basically, your life can be over in a split second, when I was out there, I was imaging what the kids were thinking when they saw those headlights...It's like you KNOW your dead. I imagine if they would have been in a suburban, or big SUV, they might have survived because of the huge engine and whole front end. The said the seats weren't bolted to the floor, no seatbelts on, and the car didn't really have a dash in it, and now the steering wheel resides in the roof...

It's hit me kind of hard, because My friend, Myself, and 2 other buddy's were doing a 100 in town, on huge hills (not sharp pointy hills but...enough to feel the car float almost)...and we came over the last hill as were slowing down, we see a big ass earth scraper going by...If we'd been racing someone, I KNOW I would have been dead, it woulda just decapitated us all. We also did 90 on a road that gets substanial traffic, and we were doing it german style and driving in the oncoming lane the whole time mainly because the road has very sharp turns, and one very sharp turn that's blind, and turns into a hill, so it's immpossible to see whats coming. Needless to say, I will walk back to their house if they ever do it again, I mean, we could come around that sharp blind hill/curve and their be a car going 35, the speed limit and we just cream them, and if the people in the backseat lived, they'd have to live with that image of seeing their pals die.

So people, if you MUST RACE, please do it on a VERY flat road, and at night, as to see headlights from a long ways away. Never race on a hilly road, thats a death wish waiting to come true. But, JUST DON'T RACE for the fact of the matter. (street race that is) Go to a sanctioned track if you really want to race.

I know some of you say it would never happen to you, but 11 teens die a day in alcohol crashes alone. Those kids that died may have said it would never happen to them, but you'll have about 1-5 seconds to know that your going to die...

I think everyone has done some pretty stupid shit in thir life sometime or other but the diffreance is not doing it again I was engaged to a girl and she was pregnant at the time with my baby and was coming home from work and was hit head on by a drunk driver and she was killed along with the baby. The drunk driver walked away unhurt. He was in jail for 3 stinking days then I saw him out driving on the 4 th day.I lost it and dished out some punisment of my own and was put in jail for 3 months for what I done to him he just cant walk without a limp now but my baby and what was to be my wife are dead because of him and all he got was 3 freakin days in jail.So before we do anything anymore just please take the time to think what it could cause and all the pain it can cause to innocent people.

BINGO!

A guy who graduated about 5 years ahead of me in HS was "showing off" the motor he just built to a bunch of buddies on a long straight flat road that everyone knows is the "racing road" in our town. At about 100+mph (no one knows exactly) He swerved ever so slightly, ended up flipping something like 10 times. That was a long straight flat road with no oncoming traffic at all. Only reason he survived is he wasn't wearing his seatbelt and was ejected into nearby brush. He is however in a wheelchair, and will be for the rest of his life. He got the better end of the deal compared to his 3 friends. 2 Were DOA, one died shortly after. He has to live with knowing what he caused.

Again, by alrights I should either be dead, or in Jail for stunts I've pulled. I worry every time I go driving with my wife and baby about stupid people like I used to be.

Best bet, just don't and say you did!

I said IF YOU MUST for the rebelous dumbasses...of course, other things can go wrong by flipping your car.

My dad came close to killing himself.

He had a 1970 Nova, not an SS or anything, Just a plain jane with a 350, but it was one of the fastest cars in school. He was drag racing a kid around a curve, down hill, came around the curve and slid sideways, flipped about 7 times, totaled his car of course, and broke his leg I think, and he had to put all the fence back up that he tore down, like about 200-300 yards of it...

Also, for all you crotch rocket owners, they may be fun to ride on, but doing...

Wheelies down the interstate at 80...

Doin 170 on your bike, on a highway...

swerving in and out of traffic...

Those are all sure fire ways to end your ass up in casket. I think crotch rokcets are the most deadly vehicles of any kind, your life rides on if your going to hit a rock on the road and start wobbling...and just tip it over, or somone isn't goin to see you coming in that lane, and they switch to your lane and your doin 170 and they doin 65...your gonna be dead...

" crotch rokcets are the most deadly vehicles of any kind,"

Motorcycles in general are the most dangerous means of transportation.
Harley Davidson or HOnda CBR they are both just as deadly.
The responsiblity falls on the Rider. DONT blame the BIke ! for a Stupid Rider!

lots of stupid motorcycle riders out there. but there are also lots of little old ladies that turn left directly in front of you. "gee officer, i never saw him!" no amount of rider safety courses can remedy that.

my best friend was on the EMT squad for a few years and has told me about many lights on to, lights off from, motorcycle crashes (worst one he says was the motorcycle/motorhome crash, took the PD awile to ID him, think hamburger.)
now whenever we pass a crotchrocket thats speeding he says "scrape ya later". he works in the trauma room now so It's sadly quite true too many times.

That's why I am glad they put those flashing lights on the motorcycles now. The ones that cycle between highbeam and low beam. Those are an awesome idea, and definately helps the cycles stick out. I just hate it when they have them on at night and are behind me... or in front of me for that matter. Is there a way to turn of the flashing?

What is it again?

there is a modulator you can buy that makes your motorcycle headlight toggle between high and low beam. they also make it for brake lights too. for some stupid reason, it's not legal to run them in all states.

It makes them more noticeable on the road. Say you're turning left at a traffic light, but you don't have a protected arrow. So you wait for traffic to go by and then you want to go through. Cars with headlights on during the day are more noticeable. Same goes for bikes, but because bikes are so small, you still might not notice the lights are on. When they toggle between high and low beam (like 4-6 times a second) then you see the flashing light coming toward you. Your eye catches it more easily. It works really well in my opinion, you can see the bikes coming from a mile away.

Same concept at lazer sights on guns. Some "pulse" about 10 times a second. It helps "catch" your eyes attention.

Exactly! I loved riding my ol' Honda 3 wheeler, but got so tired of people saying "Your gunna kill yourself, they are soooo unsafe". I get the same crud now with my Samurai and "They roll too easy". The general public is stupid and will belive most anything they hear or see in writing.

It all comes down to riding, or driving responsibly. If your dumb enough to ride a motorcycle at speeds not safe to yourself or those around you, you better be ready to accept the consiquences of your actions. Be it your own death, or someone elses and the penalties that go with it. I drive close to the posted speed limits, + or - 5 mph. I know my limits, and know what can and does happen if I push them.

Racing has its place and its not on the roads I travel on. I have a right to travel on a public road and not expect to be mowed over by some idiot showing off or trying to prove his car is faster than someone elses. Keep it on the track.

I saw a street bike rear-end a Civic...........took a good week to get that out of my system.

The worst thing was, we didn't just see the crash, we saw the idiot bomb by at something over 80 (I muttered something like "Idiot"), heard the tires screech, and then a sickening BOOM followed by screams. About the only good thing was that people came running to help the guy, doubt there was much they could do though. I used to think bikes were cool, but with darn near every guy around here riding like that, I'm now afraid to watch as they ride by.

I love my dirtbikes to death but will never own a street or dual sport bike. People don't pay attention to semi's anymore let alone a bike. Personally I hate those headlight flashers, since most people use them as a license to take stupid risks. I do like the flashers more than the idiots that dont know how to properly adjust the angle of thier headlights. I have seen very few road bikes cruisers in particular that have the headlights adjusted t point right into the windsheild of on coming cars. With three lights and high beams on yeah the car may notice you but will be blinded and run the risk of crashing into you or somebody else anyway. I have met people that have given up riding altogether after crashes. One guy got run down by a car, then they tried to drive off of him and his bike. The scars look like he was attacked by a shark from the tires spinning on his back and arm
