Been out of the game for a while and need class 2 bumper clarification.

A lot has changed since I've been gone. Anyway, getting ready to build a class 2 in the hopes that things can get started where I currently live. Figured first place to look is the rule book to see those changes. For the most part, everything seems to be straight forward until I got to the front bumper section....

" FRONT BUMPER (Required) Must extend beyond the body and leading edge of the front wheel rim (lengthwise)"

Now I understand the "body" reasoning (pinched to the frame rails etc.) But the leading edge of the wheel rim?? How are you all doing this if your tires extend past the front of the rig? Or is this rule to keep that from happening? If I'm misinterpreting something or confused, please let me know.

Yeah, the rectangles are a bit strange. But I get all that. Had to go to my picture book days but the explanation on the front bumper isn’t making sense to me.

I never read the the rules. The way I read that sentence means the front of the tire can stick out past the bumper, but the wheel itself cannot.

I see what your thinking. But what throws it all off is, "lengthwise". Which in my mind, the tires would need to sit behind the bumper so that the ends of the bumper would line up with the edge of the inner wheel (minimum) looking at it from the front?

Luckily I dont have to SORRCA so I havent kept up with their rules. But it sounds like the bumper needs to be at a minimum in front of the leading edge of the wheel but the tires can stick out past the bumper. And of course, the bumper has to stick out past the body.

Just a suggestion, but if you are looking to get your own series started, maybe try a simpler rule set? One where SORRCA vehicles would qualify but you dont need a law degree to decipher? Last time I looked at their rules they were 50+ pages. I can't see being a newbie wanting to start off competing and having to deal with all that. The rule set we follow is maybe a page long (for each class) at most. Slap some scale items on a VRD Stance and a good driver can be very competitive in a set like ours.

I concur with this if you are looking to start a local comp scene. Our club is a WRCCA club, and WRCCA added a "Performance Scale" class, which is kind of like SORRCA Class 2, but without the winching and scale points. That said, our club doesn't run a true "Performance Scale" class, we call it "Trail Class" and it is a super relaxed rule set where basically you need a body with a chassis at least as long as the wheelbase, or a buggy chassis (Capra, H10, or metal like UCF).

I'd be happy to share the WRCCA Performance scale rule set or our club's much more relaxed Trail Class rule set. Whatever you do, I would suggest something that would allow people buying RTR trucks (Coyote, Capra, Stance, Optic, etc.) to participate without modification.

Appreciate the input from you guys and ax the 50 page rule book. If I get interest in people wanting to get together, I think I’ll take the advice and have it more of a relaxed atmosphere for sure. If you don’t mind, please share the rules you have. Would be nice to have something already in place to start with.
When my son turned old enough back in the day, I basically built him a cheap as possible scx10 so he could compete with all of us. Would like to keep that same vibe
