I like Guiness, but never understood the hype either. I hear it's much different if you get it at the brewery though, so that's on my bucket list.

Seen a show here recently about micro-brewers here in Oz, one of the guys loads up his water with various minerals so it is the same as the water in wherever it is they brew it in the UK, making a "real" guiness. Like to give the proper stuff a go too, not just the locally licensed and brewed crap.....

I went to Valley Forge National Park this past weekend for my birthday. Stayed and played at the casino, saw some history, ate some crabs. Wife took me to lunch at Bahama Breeze. I ordered a local brew called Victory Storm King Stout. Now I usually like a nice dark beer, but this baby curled my toes! Not coffee undertones, but like a dark beer mixed with espesso! 9.1% alcohol. Man's beer, bitches! Also stopped at Wegman's on the way back to the room and picked up a sampler of different brews to get in the flow before heading downstairs to lose some coin in the casino. Had to try some George Washington Porter! Molasses based, and yummy!"thumbsup"

How is that banana bread beer? I see that in the local store and I'm curious, but hesitant.

I drank plenty of Japanese beers while visiting there this past week. My wife said the Asahi tasted like PBR, and dammit she was right and ruined my palette for it the rest of the trip :lol: Other than Asahi, Suntory, and Sapporo I didn't get to try anything else which would be considered micro brew. It did trip me out that they sell it in vending machines. Pretty cool!


I've been doing a continuous brew of apple cider wine with champagne yeast over the past 4 or 5 months. Buy a gallon of fresh juice, pitch it into the batch, bottle a gallon, enjoy in a few days! After the two month mark it started tasting very refined and crisp. At first it was "green" and estery flavored, drinkable but overwhelming to the taste.

My latest obsession is Stella Artois. I know it's a bit pricey and hipster, but it's pretty smooth. I took a case of bottles to my camp for opening weekend of trout season and everyone kept asking me what it was. Lots of Busch and Bud Light drinkers in the family....uuuugggg! I usually have that and some Guinness on hand and right now I have seven other brews in my fridge. Love the Wegman's sampler packs! Any six beers for eleven bucks. My wife gets annoyed because I can peruse the beer section longer than it takes her to shop for groceries!

It was Bronze like in color. Smelled like a hint of bananas when I popped the top off. Initial taste was sweet and definitely could taste the banana from the first drink. To me it was kinda bitter towards the end. It was overall ok but I probably won't get another.

Nut Brown was today's selection whilst I grilled some boneless pork chops for my wife and salmon for myself. Not too bad, but nothing special.

Oh have I found my kind of people!!! I love good beer... craft beers and micro brews!! I will try everything but the typical domestic crap....sorry I call it crap....

I will be sure to post some I try. My favorites are IPAs and double IPAs. I absolutely love Moylans Hopsickle. Also great divide hercules. My go to brew is sweetwater ipa and dogfish head 90 minute ipa. 120minute IPA is very tasty as well.

Sierra Nevada Olivia Dubbel

COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ovila Abbey Dubbel is brewed in the abbey tradition, and perfect for the re-birth of spring. Clear and deep copper in color, this Abbey Dubbel has a complex and rich malty sweetness with hints of caramelized sugar. The aroma is a heady and layered mix of fruit and spice, with hints of clove, raisin, and black pepper from the use of an abbey style yeast.

Not bad at all. A lot different than my usual citrusy preferred IPA types, or even the Belgian style weizens I'm enjoying lately. Quite the complex and rich malts, and my lips get sticky. The clove is barely in there, to me, but it is if I think about it. Raisin? No idea. Black pepper? I bought just a single bottle out of curiousity, and while good, I will venture onward. I think I was looking for a side step from Maudite from Unibroue, and this is somewhat in the ballpark, I'd rather be having a Maudite.

Really?

You can get a reverse osmosis system to strip water bare, then add the minerals to create the profile you want to copy.

Water profile is a very important part of brewing, and the reason some beers taste so different depending on where they are brewed. Burton-on-Trent is a great example of a water profile that many try to emulate.

It's funny that I just found this....I've been thinking of firing up the brew kettle soon, but I'll just be using plain old Longmont Colorado water "thumbsup"

I picked up a few of these a couple different times now and love them. They are a good dessert beer after a great home cooked meal.

don't stay with your Bud, Heineken or whatever you found everywhere
find a good store and test some good beer, it's just like good wine, fool of surprises "thumbsup"
