Berg Super 300 cvd first impression

I call them like I see them. No sugar coating at all. Not everyone likes this. I say the things most people are thinking, but will not say.

yes you do, it is not always a bad thing......it's not always a good thing either.

Can't we all just get along!!:lmao:

i really don't think ted was trying to start a fight. he is just a consumer giving his opinion. may not be what everyone wanted to hear but it was just that an opinion.

I too bought them and received them at Worlds in Donner.

I had prepared for the few things, but not all of them. The fit and tightness of the CVD joint after running 2 days (one practice down the Donner Pass and 1 day on Saturday) they have free'd up just fine.

Issues I noticed were the coating applied to resist rust and such was thick causing the bearings to be a tight fit...not too hard to overcome with the tools we brought. The other issue was the Hex pin hole was extremely undersized or there was some sort of burr. Had to run to the local hardware store and buy a drill and a 5/64 drill and all was good then.

At the time of install I was upset, but I think it had more to do with the rush of needed a truck at Worlds. I let the uncomfortable feeling of being behind and changing before a big event really get to me.

Over all a good product, especially knowing the rush these were put in to get us some for the comp.

i too got them at worlds (thanks fishmax) and my cvds were slightly ratchedy as well. i too was cussing a bit during the install. mainly at the hex pin issue. i had to file the hole to get the pins to slide in, which is not really a big issue other than the fact i was in my hotel room with a limited amount of tools.

also the bearings do fit extremly tight and although all these tight tolerences are a good thing you have to be very delicate with them as to not destroy them in the process. i finally managed to get them in and working that night.

i didn't run them until the next day at the comp and i never really noticed any binding or roughness in the rotation. they seemed to really do what they were inteded for, turn sharp and not worry about breaking.

i definatly bound my rig a few times that in all reality would have snapped the pins in a reg dogbone axle. i also jumped my rig through a finish gate on the upper course about 6-7 feet in the air and came down directly on the right front side tire with an enormous thud. all i was thinking is "this will do it" but nothing, not even a wobble.

all in all i do believe these are a quality product and i think everyone's rush to get them, and get them in, caused a certain amount of stress during the installs.

thanks for all of the comments!! I do appreciate the feedback, It will only make products better. I will adjust the tolerance on the hex pin holes slightly to make the install a little easier. that can be done without sacrificing strength!! definetely let me know if anyone has a problem with there product. like alot of the guys said, the install of these shafts would be alot easier in the shop at home, especially without the worry of getting them in right before the comp, Im sure that beer didnt ever interfeer with the installs!!!

Exactly...I blame the frustration on the altitude and its effect on the beer...All good now though and happy with the products.

I got my CVD's the day before Worlds also. They were tight and a PITA to get in, but I was also in a hotel room with limited tools. But we did get them in and they work great! I will say for a fact that I got into a bind on Superdave's course that would HAVE broken a dog bone and I know it would have cost me my 4th place finish in the end. When I finally got out of it, I just looked at him and said thanks. He probably didnt even know what I was talking about.

Thank you for the great CVD's Superdave, I will not run a berg without them. "thumbsup"

Hey

I got mine at Worlds, went in smooth and began running smooth after 5 min of power at full turn with AE Black Grease.

My drive pins pressed in with plier without a problem. I drilled my hexes so that I would have an interference fit, they are on there nice and snug.

I have my second set on order.

Thanks Dave

My at home installtion went off without a hitch, but I could see it being a little tougher in a hotel room the night before a "BIG" comp:shock:

Especially with no 2mm drill bit :-( or drill for that matter...i was screwed lol

I got home from Worlds and had them in my rig after about a half hours worth of work. They are butter smooth now and just plain BEEF!!!
