Best scale 2.2 wheels & tires for a very heavy rig?

Hey all,

I am building a 1/6 scale trail truck with Wraith axles. The frame is currently being built out of steel channel and I am also building a solid rod steel roll cage for it. By the time I am done it should be in the range of 12 or 13 pounds. Currenlty have the stock RTR Wraith Ripsaws and wheels but I want to go for a more scale look. Originally wanted to go with RC4WD TTC Baja Claws and some type of RC4WD aluminum beadlocks but not sure now.

Any recomendations and pics of your heavy rig would be greatly appreciated.

I imagine the wheels would be plenty strong given that they are aluminum, but I bet you would have to beef up the foam inside the tires or something.

Just throwing some ideas out there.

My intial thought was to run the wheels and tires without any vents to trap some air pressure.

I know the RC4WD tires don't have the grip like the Proline TSL's but they should work good with lots of weight.....I hope....

So why don't you want to go with the TSL's? I think the Proline Swampers and RC4WD Stamped Steel wheels look the best.

I thought about the TSL's but saw another large scale build where they were too soft to support the weight.

Personally, I don't like the RC4WD steel wheels. They look like the kind of wheels you would by at a garage sale for you 1:1 when you can't afford real wheels. I want beadlocks that actually look like 1:1 beadlock wheels you would see on a built trail/rock rig.

I played with a few different tires on my 1/6th willys and in the end, the RokLox seem to hold up the best for a heavy rig. ( My Jeep weighs 14 lbs!) The tires have a firm foam and the sidewalls on the tires seem to have a bit of stiffness to them. I tried the Ripsaws and really liked the traction they have but no matter what foam I tried, the Ripsaws sidewalls would just buckle/wrinkle the second they got a side load placed on them.

both have aluminum frames though

I'm running the 2.2 rc4wd rock crushers and they do fairly well i think because of the weight. I had them on a 9 lb. rig and they do alot better on this 12lb. rig
