Better ESC/Motor Combo

Hello, this is my first post here, so I apologize if this has already been covered.

Like most people have probably noticed, the stock ESC and Motor combo on the TH really blows. The lack of a drag brake, the lack of the ability to change directions or the fact that I have to sometimes squeeze the throttle multiple times to get the truck to move after a roll back is beyond annoying and disappointing.

My LHS is trying sell me a Novak 21.5T Brushless ESC/ Crawler motor combo for $179.

I want to talk to you folks about suggestions on how to get this truck to have a decent drag brake and throttle control before I drop any money like that.

So hit me with your suggestions please! :)

I was actually going to make the same post. I lost reverse in my stock TH today and Horizon is sending me a new esc. I am looking at upgrading my ESC also. I see people are using the MMP, but I thought the MMP was for brushless motors only, but not sure.

May want to consider a separate BEC also. I noticed that before my reverse died, my steering servo got sluggish. I use BEC's in my other crawlers.

I am not that familiar with what ESC options are available, so hopefully people will chime in with some recommendations.

I think 21t will be to too slow. Try 17.5 or 13.5. Crawling isn't this rigs best quality so you may as well start with a combo that you can get some decent speed with.
IMHO Novak is not a brand I would put my cash into, Tekin if you can afford it, Hobbywing for a cheap reliable combo. Holmes BRXL if you want a brushed setup.

What battery are you running that will fit in the stock tray? I'm really interested in this combo.

Flightpower 3S 2100's fit with a slight trim to the tray (notch for wire clearance) along with many others in that size range. The dimensions are roughly 4" L x 1.15" W.
