Big Bore Emulsion Conversion?

So I searched for threads on Emulsion shock set ups, and only found a bit of info and some technical bickering from a 2007 thread on flipping shocks.

I do understand how different types of shocks function. My question is this; would it be feasable to convert Traxxas Big Bore's into "true" Emulsion shocks. I run them on my Hustler Super, and I'm consistantly inverting or blowing bladders. I use 100w Trinity oil and the stock 2 hole pistons.

My thought was to use a set up similar to that of the Associated shocks, in that I would install a small foam plug in the shock cap. I'm thinking that just removing the bladder and not installing something in its place will cause more problems than it will fix.

Has anyone tried anything like this specificaly with the Big Bores?

Unfortunately the big bores will not seal without a bladder. Even if you could get it too seal, not having air bubbles running through the piston holes makes for a much smoother damping.

For what its worth, I run the big bores inverted but have GS Silicone bladders in them.

Whoodie, do you have a part number on the GS bladders? I'll give em' a try if I can't convert to emulsion type.

This will work...you just need an exacto.

Take the stock bladder and cut the "bladder" out leaving the outer sealing ring as a seal. We do this on the RC8 shocks all the time to make them Emulsion works way better.

Thanks for the tip. The Big Bores in my son's rig are not performing correctly either and I will see if this helps. I have a couple questions though.

- Since the bladder usually takes up some of the space, do you need to try and add extra shock oil to fill the space the bladder once filled?

- I did the traxxas rod end mod to my shock caps, do you think I need to seal over that (maybe silicone or shoo goo) so that oil doesn't possibly leak through?

Emulsion needs air and oil to mix. The best thing to do is fill the shock, remove most air like normal. Then fill full to the top of the shock body. Next you will need to add some in the top cap. Flip quick and tighten. Check movement, if it is too stiff after some pumps, you need to bleed some oil out.

I would add a drop of something to help seal the rod end mod to be safe.

That is what I was thinking already. Thank you for confirming it"thumbsup".
