I wan't to get into brushless with my 1/18 scale and don't know anything about it. I can buy a setup through tower hobbies for $105 but I want a ESC motor combo for cheeper. There are tonz of esc and motors on ebay, but don't have a clue if they are going to work, or even what I should look for.. Help if you can.

Do a search for "brushless" in this forum. There's a long thread about brushless motors floating around here somewhere.

you wont be able to find anything cheaper than $115 that will work in a crawler, unless you find used. The esc's on ebay are mostly plane stuff, and that doesnt work in cars.

you want a Castle Creations mamba 25 esc, and an outrunner motor. What vehicle is this going in?

You may be able to find a deal on a used system, but you aren't going to find any decent brushless systems for under $100 brand new.

I am putting it in an rc18mt. (not a crawler) I have read all about the castle creations mamba stuff but didn't know if I have other options. I would like to run reverse but if I can get an esc for much cheeper I would be fine with just a brake.

Castle is kinda the standard for the 18th scale racers. I have the 6800 in mine and it's awesome. The thing does about 40 mph on 6 cells. Hacker is another brushless motor manufacture I've seen used in an 18T. I'm thinking of one more but I can't remember the name. I just know that the motor can is bright blue anodized and the ESC has some seriously bright colored leads.

Bishop Power Products is a good place for the CC stuff. It's $99 bucks for the 6800 and the Mamba 25 controller. And they often run a free shipping promo.

EDIT: Just checked the site... $119 right now :? and AON is the brand I was thinking of. They have that one as well, but with a Mamba controller.

I run a mamba 5800 in my 18t and it runs great, even with 6 cell packs. It has reverse and brake. I think I picked it up off of ebay for right about $100.
How do you plan on running the truck? Alot of guys find the 5800 and higher almost too fast for track use. If you are going to run around the street and bash with it Id say go for it.

Wan't to purchase brushless setup.

I am mostly just going to bash it up. I don't really care which one I have (the 4200, or 5800). If anyone out there has a setup they wan't to sell that has reverse and would fit my rc18t just let me know. I am willing to pay about $70-80.

the bright blue with rainbow wires is the Quark.....
The Mamba or the Tekin are good. Do some research and make an educated decision. Castle Creations the maker of the Mamba have the best customer service in the business.......They stand behind the product 100%. I know people who had issues and they send replacements overnight!!!

well..

i won't go into much detail here since you're trying to spend on a budget... BUT

the REAL best car ESC (no matter the size actually)... is the Kontronik JAZZ 40-6-18

but it AINT cheap. trust me when i say, you GET what you pay for when it comes to ESCs... Kontronik makes the best ESCs available in the hobby world, BAR NONE.

that said mamba is ok for many appls...

try to stay with a lower Kv motor, or you will find issues with motor cog and starting out from a stopped position. constant stop/starts and braking will heat up the somewhat incapable MAMBA and it will begin to cog even worse.

when i take ANY of my models--- (i know this cuz i JUST recently did some swapping around with the JAZZ) i find my 18th scale PTI MMT crawler and MiniQuake 1/18th monster truck (and my Trex helicopter) all perform SO MUCH better and more reliably with the Kontronik JAZZ vs the Castle Creations Mamba (or the CC Phoenix for my helicopter).

Is the only difference between the Mamba Sport pakage and the Mamba Performance package the motor?

Ronald, which motors were you using with the CC esc? If I remember right you had a motor that was past the capabilities of the esc. Your Kont esc's have a higher current and voltage handling.
