Could someone explain what motor rotation I want for a new motor and what timing does for me?

I think most motors run the same direction, counter clockwise. Some brushless speed controls allow you to change the rotation. If you increase the timing it speeds the motor up but also draws more current and will be harder on both the speed control and motor. With brushless motors you can have both mechanical timing (on the motor) and electronic timing (speed control setting). With crawlers keeping 0 timing is fine for most applications, or whatever the motor is set at from the factory. Adjusting the timing is more often used for racing and bashing.
