I am new at painting these rc bodies and I am looking to create a paint job on my crawler that's a bit more creative and original. Can someone tell me how to paint a 2 color paint job that has a carbonfiber look to it? I have heard of using dryer sheets (fabric softener) in the technique but I am not sure about the details.

I spray some light streaks of black first, then spray silver through that rubber shelf-liner stuff, and then back it in black.

This is the last one I did with that method:

Thanks MrNate for the idea. I will try it out. Have you used that technique with other colors?

I wished I had pics, but I used a metalic purple and a metalic black for my CF and it turned out pretty sweet useing the same technique. So you could practically use any colors as long as there was prolly black or a silver color in there somewhere.

Just my $0.02.

For other colors of cf use the opaque color and it's pearle equivalent.

For example:
Opaque White and Pearle White...
Opaque Blue and Pearle Blue...

I wonder if you could use replacement screen material for a more scale CF look. The kind of stuff you can get at HD to fix a ripped window screen.

I've always thought that fiber glass mesh drywall tape might work well, but haven't tried it.

i've used a drywall mess like this before for my first attempt at cf. Worked great and best part is unlike other stuff this will stick to the lexan and comes off easy as well.

if you use carpet tape it works pretty good, you have to do a light coat of smoke paint, then lay the carpet tape and then back it with black, but in light coats so it doesnt bleed through the tape, and in my opinion this has the realist carbon fiber weave type look
