Carbon Steering rod

I originally made one from some axial rods but i had some 1/4in carbon rod here so i thought lets try it8)

This stuff slides over anything.I cut a 124mm piece and JB welded stock parts AXA1633 into both ends(they fit nice and snug),added AX80005 links and it is perfect.

The nice part is that you can adjust toe in or out with a simple twist of the rod"thumbsup"

I think i will add more JB weld to beef up the ends a little"thumbsup"

There was a guy on the AX10 thread that used carbon fiber arrow shaft remnants and a standard arrow insert that has 8/32 threads into the shaft for links... looked good.

My biggest worry would be how long that carbon(fiber) is going to stand up against rough rock, or a sharp impact.

Go beat the snot out of it! Only one way to find out??

Looks good!

I've built and use carbon for my links, BUT there is a big different in a link than having you tires jammed between two rocks and a 600oz servo pushing it the other way. Jb weld it NOT work to keep the insert in. It takes some super high strength epoxy.

So far so good"thumbsup"..The wall of the carbon rod is pretty thick.I scuffed up the inside wall of the rod by jamming the link end in and out a few times so it has something to bite into

Also added another layer of JB at the base,if it doesnt hold up i'll make another.I have a three foot piece of carbon rod to use up:mrgreen: I also have some liquid steel and high strength epoxy here at home.

I dont drive as aggressively as some of you hardcore types so i cant really say how it would work for you guys(i'm just a basher). But i will say that the price was definetly right and it slides over everything;-)

I spend more time tinkering with my RC than i do driving or flying so its all good.I'm having fun8)

Thanks for the feedback"thumbsup"

I do a lot of custom arrow building. I highly recommend that you use arrow inserts and a high temp insert glue that archery shops use. I have shot through turkeys and hit a pine tree the carbon arrow laughs at the tree and I call pull the arrow out of th tree w/ my broad head still attached. Jb weld sucks and it will fail. Doesn't have the correct bonding agents for carbon. Other that that carbon rod is very strong and can take a beating. And yes the inserts are for 8-32 thread

It looks good "thumbsup" Glad you are having fun. Some people forget that is the point.

I would try that arrow thread insert thing those guys are taking about if you have the means to do it. I'm not hard on my truck either but I snapped two of those tiny little threaded adjuster rods.
