Check your gear mesh guys

After my first "testing session" just messing around the house, I checked temps on the motor and ESC and both were much warmer than I thought they should've been for such a short run. I decided to check gear mesh and low and behold, I found this. The pinion was pushed out of alignment from the spur and the mesh was tight to the point of binding. The RTR setup has both motor screws in the "C" holes. I realigned the pinion back to the center of the spur first then moved the motor mount screws to the "D" position. Perfect! Just a slight *tick* and no more binding and I'm making full contact with the spur now. It's only three screws to pull the top spur and pinion cover so 5 minutes of your time will ensure a lot more life out of your motor and spur.

I just checked the mesh on mine and it was super tight. It's on the "D" hole now. Also, I adjusted the pinion and had a bit of an issue with the pinion set screw hitting the spur gear so in my case it had to be moved out a bit. Just keep that in mind. All is good with the truck now.

Mesh will be fine, its the gear placement. Harley posted about this.

I checked mine and it was alright (no contact or issues), but I did move it slightly to get 100% engagement.
 
This is poor assembly and quality control on the part of Traxxas. Traxxas is typically better than this.

So there are different holes for mesh and not a 'slider hole' ?
Yes. It's a system that many companies have used and it works well.
 
Always go over a RTR checking assembly, gear mesh, oil in shocks, etc...especially the "first batch" Production issues are bound to pop up.
