Clamps for brazing?

if any of you guys have seen my build threads on my tigress, TT build and PRO 4 you'll see my clamps I have used "thumbsup" ....here is a little of what I use, rest are in my build threads....I have 8 red magnets and the hose clamp is used to hold stuff together....I have many different lengths I switch out for the gap I need reached....I also have reverse clamps for expansion to push outwards when I need it....

the rear bumper for my PRO 4 was brazed clamped to the alum plate, all joints but the one under the clamp were done from that position "thumbsup" ....

Wow, you guys are crazy.:lmao: I've used large magnets for a while now and have yet to have any problems, none of my magnets suffer any great amount of heat. The most important aspect is to keep the flame directed away from the magnets and try to keep the focus of the heat around 3 to 6 inches from them. I've brazed several joints with magnets this way. Just remember, good practice makes perfect.:flipoff:

Wait until you get too close to one of those 90* magnets, those things burn like oil and stink to high hell!

Did that the other day, they hold heat forever too lol.

I walked around Harbor Freight an they have some cheap Chinese pig iron clamps and all kinds of tools that will break with the second or third use. I'll probably pick a few up and see if I can come up with some idea.

anyone else have magnets loose there "magneticness" from the heat? none of my welding magnets can even hold there own weight anymore from brazing.

the heat kills magnets... but i have found harbor freight mags are cheap enough that i can deal with it.besides, they make fun charred decorations for the steel rod charley brown christmas tree in the shop.

well that and they last longer that spring clamps for me

I've noticed that as well.

Here's a pic from an old build thread of mine, you can see how to use 90* pieces for anchor points. I also have 4 of those 90* parts flipped over so that the point faces up ( like this ^ ) to set the brazing plate so I wouldn't set the work bench on fire from heat transfer.

I'm using solid rod and mig, but a jig is a jig really.

I modelled mine out in 2d, and CNC plasmaed it out, little beyond most people, but the theory is sound. With a bunch of drawings done to scale, a drill and a grinder you could accomplish the same.
The part that holds the forward edge of the roof bar and the dash bar is just held down with a magnet, everything just drops into the grooves and basically self aligns, and I can just pull the entire chassis off when I'm done. Took under an hour to go from a stack of rod to this........

Its the second time I've used that jig, I just finished out the ends differant, no sense in building jigs for those parts for me.
