Clod Project: Check out my 1 night chassis!!!

Update 8/10/05!!!

Ok guys, I started the summer off with a Twin Force project, but that was quickly scraped in favor of another clod crawler, out of the 4 crawlers I've had my last clod kicked all there butts, so here we go:

I had a good night to start after I got off work at 6pm saturday, so I figured I'd see what I could get done. The chassis is actually 2 RC10GT carbonfiber rear shock towers (lol) so the biggest part was already made for me, so I drew up some quick 4-link mearsurments and started cutting, and here is what I came up with after that night.

Thanks Guys, yea the shocktowers turned out to be a better chassis than I thought, lol. but I finished up about 12:00a.m. haha long night but it was worth it seeing the truck take shape that quick, ... as for electronics I plan on Lathe motors, Super Rooster, and Hobbico CS-70 servos (unitl I can get some robot servos, lol).

I'm gonna try to get some more done tomm. I'll keep you guys posted

that is just AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!! For someone who can make their own links and spacers, i think that will be one of the easiest, best looking, and good performing chassis.

kevinlongisland: Thanks Man! the only hole I drilled is the lower chassis bar and the rest were already there, but you have to enlarge them for 3mm hardware cause Associated is standard 4-40.


Im have a problem with the chassis twisting with the suspension anybody got any ideas???

as i was reading this, i was planning to say something about that, then i got down to the bottom and saw you already noticed it.......

build a skidplate that mounts to each cross brace....

or you could triangulate it.....

JakeDaSnake, would you mind if i "borrow" your idea?

i was wanting to do the same thing with some LST bulkheads, but i can only find them in aluminum and they are like 40 dollars a piece......the ones you used are like half that.....and you can get fiberglass ones for less than $10 a piece......

Maybe add some braces that connect the lower links. Those and the upper two braces you already have should make it pretty strong. Then bend some aluminum and make a skidplate that ties into those same lower link holes.

Or have you found some other bolt on rc part to use for the skid? ;-)

Thanks for kind words agian guys, SlammedMini469: yea that was my plan then I decided to go with just 2 titanium turnbuckles to make an "X" right under the upper supports, sure man go ahead and try it!

Pullstarter: If you look close at the second pic you can see were I marked with a sharpy what material will need to be removed to use a stick pack.

cman_1500w: Im gonna make a skidplate with some "tuf-lack" I found at Home Depot. not really sure how much rigidity that will give it, I might wind up goin with an aluminum.

It doesn't get much easier than that! Pefect for the new guy.

Small battery pack on one axle, ESC on the other. The only thing on the chassis is the reciever.

1.) they are like 15 dollars a piece
2.) Tower Hobbies has them
3.) he made his own links im guessing

Tower also has fiberglass ones for less than 7 dollars a piece......

i think im going to buy a fiberglass one and use it for a template to make some out of 1/8" aluminum.......

Yea Chris I got them at my LHS, but I work there so I got them for like 7 bucks for the graphite ones...

I made my own links, lowers are fiberglass and uppers are steel brake line (gonna be graphite tubing soon).

Update: 7/26/05

SlammedMini469: I think the fiberglass ones would work fine, the main reason I got the Graphite is because of looks and the price for me, lol.

UPDATE: Chassis Flex is solved. I used the "X" brace idea, and it works flawlessly, I used same Hangar 9 titanium pushrods and GS Racing 5.8mm ball cups and studs. I also moved the 2 upper chassis supports lower right below my upper link mounts, and Im gonna move the upper link mounts up one hole.
