Well, I am headed with the family out to Colorado for a week in the end of July and was wondering about how crawlers get places when airplanes are involved. I assume that they would be suspicious in the carry on luggage with all the radio equipement.

So stuff the crawler and a few parts and tools in my checked luggage? Any experiences or advice you guys have?

Thanks,
Lex

Everything I've ever seen says the best way to do this, is pack it up good and ship it out ahead of time. Is there anyone out there that can receive the package for you? I wouldn't trust it in checked lugage because (a hire percentage than I'm willing to risk of) bagage handlers are thieves.

I have taken mine as a carry on from cali to new york to north carolina and back. I even drove it through the terminals instead of carrying it "thumbsup"

I flew to Vegas with my Hustler2.2 my Recoil 2 radios and 10 lipos in my carry on no problems. I also had 2 SW2s in my checked bag along with my chargers ,power supply, more radios, tools and parts it all got there and back no problems"thumbsup"

I flew to GR with my super and 2.2 packed into 2 carry on bags. Radios and batteries were in there too.
Tools go in your checked luggage.

I too had no problems with carry on. I had a lap top and my 2.2 tube chassis crawler strapped to my backpack. I think they were so confused at a grown man with a little toy that they didn't realize I was carrying more than the allowable size restrictions. They did ask me what it was of course, but ultimately no problems.

Just to clarify though, this was 2 years ago, so things may have changed a bit in the rules.

you wont have any problems if you carry it on as long as batteries are nearby. they may ask you to turn it on and show thats its really a fully functional toy rock crawler.

I flew from Minneapolis to Altanta not even a month ago. JIA and I tried to hook up for some crawling. Didn't happen...:-(

I packed mine into my checked bag. I took the wheels off and stuffed a couple packs under the body. I use a cheepy small ac/dc charger for travels. Remember to pack light, you don't need ALL your tools and crap. I had no issues on the way down. On the way back when I picked up the my bag in Minneapolis there was an "inspected" tag on it. No one said anything to me though. I even asked the ticketing people from Delta...No issues.

My tip...Don't try to hide it and sneek it. Be upfront and if asked or "harassed" be calm and cool and explain what it is. Should be fine."thumbsup"

They propably wouldent say anyhting but i would do one thing and unplud some of the stuff and take out/discharge the batteries just to be safe.

The 3 of us from ORCRC flew with our rigs and gear coming back from Nationals last year.... no issues. We had about 7 rigs that we took along with lots of other crap. We checked it all without issues and that was around 9/11 time too.

sorry, but thats just stupid.
if they didnt know what it was they wouldnt ask you to plug it in and turn it on.
think about it. wires, batteries, radios........for all they know it could be a bomb, so they arent going to ask you to turn it on so you can blow them up.

As usual you guys have all the answers!

Thanks for the help guys, I think I'll just take most of the expensive stuff with me and check some of the other stuff. I will make sure that the tools dio not go on the plane.

Thanks,
Lex
