Greetings! First time poster, fairly new to crawlers but not to rc. I'm first to admit I'm not electronically minded you could say. Anyways, looking for a budget radio/esc for my new project. As far as esc I've been leaning towards the Hobbywing 1080 everyone seems to be raving about as a good budget esc but open to suggestions. Again I'll be focusing my $$ on the scale/body build aspect of the project rather than the electronics. Since the body has been cut up by another owner I'm thinking of starting new and building a WWII Fordson WOT6 military truck cab. The flat/slab-sidedness of the Fordson cab shouldn't be too hard to replicate. Anyways, about the radio/esc....

P.S. I can't seem to be able to post any pics on here, sorry. Maybe because it's my 1st post?

Thanks

For the money, you can't beat a Hobbywing 1080. For a motor, there are SO many brushed options under $30, and you can get something quite good for under $50.

I'm personally a big fan of the Flysky GT-5, because they're cheap, have six channels, set up quickly and easily, and can run a $10 LiPo pack with zero modifications.

I second the GT-5. Plus the additional receivers are fairly inexpensive too. I think I paid $20 (delivered) for two three channel compatible receiver last time I needed some.

Ill 3rd Flysky GT5. I have had the Flysky 2 channel and 3 channel and they are the most comfortable i have used IMO. Cheap, reliable, and comfortable is a win.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Glad everyone seems to be leaning in the same direction. I def like the 6 channel idea, that will allow me to install an additional servo for a dummy bed mounted anti-aircraft gun maybe, lights, maybe a winch, etc as the build progresses and plans change. Always good to have an extra channel or two. Thumbs up on that! I'll be using the stock kit motor first but will no doubt upgrade soon but will be staying brushed for budget reasons. As for the 1080 is setup difficult? What I mean is will I need to hook it up to a PC or an app to set it up or can I do it old-school in the vehicle? I'm good with mechanical dumb with apps....

I wish I could post some pics of the GC4 as attachments....everyone likes pics. lol

PS. Dumb question of the day maybe: Wrong forum but... I know the 1/14 scale Tamiya big rig owners usually use stick radios but theoretically anything in the way of also using the GT5 in one of those rigs?....a xmas present to myself (maybe...).
