I built this kit about 6 weeks ago. Originally it had a two-tone civilian paint job and a full bed with sides and a tailgate, but it looked too much like a pretty dump truck, so I decided to go with a sand color and a flatbed instead. Now it is a hauler for my Tamiya Humvee.

The kit was fairly time consuming, but not too hard to build. The quality is similar to Tamiya. However, I had issues with the rear differential popping the first time I took it up a hill. The axles came pre-assembled so all I had done was grease the gears, but long story short I couldn't figure out what was wrong and shims didn't help, so I swapped the two rear axles for SCX10 axles that I robbed from another truck. I kept the front axle stock and it runs well now.

The stock shocks and springs were not up to the task of hauling such a heavy truck anyway, but with the Axial shocks limited internally it does well - just not a lot of articulation.

I switched the rectangular stock hatch on the cab for one made for the Tamiya Humvee and used the thread method to saw it open. With modified McFarlane soldiers and a few details it looks like it matches its cargo. I know their is no U.S. truck that actually looks like this, but life is short.

I have two bodies for the Humvee; one with a closed roof hatch (for transit) and one open with a 50 cal. gunner attached.

I think that I may add a servo under the guy in the hatch of the XC6 so he can rotate using the third channel on my transmitter. I think I can get away with 2.2 Flat Irons on some Militant wheels from RC4WD without looking too outrageous.

I only have a partial interior now, so I may try to detail it a bit more and "roll down" the driver's window. Ultimately, I'd like to have a moving steering wheel in the cab, but trying to get the stiff plastic soldier to appear as though he is turning the truck will be a challenge.

Dang it! I just noticed from the pictures that I broke a section of the Humvee grill yesterday. :x That'll be fun to repair.

im wondering what people are thinking when they drive by looking at a 40 year old man playing with ARMY Trucks and G.I. Joes

LOL

pretty cool need a 4th of July fire fight vid

I got a few honks, but I prefer to think that they either wanted to play too or find me attractive.
lol. Looks great. what figures are those? I love military themed builds. Oops never mind I re-read and see they are the Mcfarlane's

Cheers,

It appears that the U.S. Army does use a truck similar to the XC6, the FMTV truck. Not the same, but close enough for government work!
