I've been reading the posts and watching programming videos, trying to decide on a radio. I understand the 4pl is great and the 4pk is greater, but the current gen seems to be 4pm(?)

Did I miss the boat on the L and K, or are these radio still readily available (new)?

What's the current wisdom on best 4 channel Futaba hardware?

Thank you.

For 4-channel, yes, 4PM is the current radio. You might be able to find new units of the older models, from places such as Amazon, eBay, etc. If 4 channels is all you'll ever need, the 4PM is supposed to be a great radio. On the other have, of you believe you could have a new for more than 4 channels, then the 7PX/7PXR is what you want (and, too be completely honest...and, from personal experience...it's an excellent choice).

I love my 4PLS”.

I think the difference between them is minor button placements.

You won’t go wrong with any of the 4 channel Futabas

Thank you both for the confirmation. Some of the information here isn't quite as current as it once was! I'm trying to catch up on changes over the last decade and keep researching information from threads that are almost that old. Gotta remember to look at the dates! 😂

I'd like to hear why you prefer the M to the LS as well, Afrofroggy.

Can we discuss the different available receivers as well? I've found the 4PM available with either a R304SB or R334SBS. They're both T-FHSS, with one having a single external antenna, and the latter shows one external and one internal antenna and SR response for (some) Futaba servos.

I'm largely ignorant about these things, but that seems to speak to range (which I'm not so concerned about with a crawler, right?). I'll admit I don't know what "SR Response time" means or how I would benefit. What I understand though, is a $70 dollar difference in price. I'm a buy-once-cry-once kinda guy, but I also don't want to spend money where I won't notice a difference, y'know?

The best FHSS rx I've found is the 6ch R2106GF. Its $35, super light and available almost everywhere. The quick response time and all that jazz are not really needed for crawlers, so the cheaper airplane RXs are just fine.
