Custom Bodies & I'm an uber-noob, please guide me...

Forgive me, I am a complete noob when it comes to RC cars. The only RC cars I have ever dealt with are the pre-made/complete ones from the K-Mart/Wal-Mart Toy Isle that just need installation of batteries to start using. But I am trying to do something for my brother who recently retired from the military. Any help in finding the info I need would be much appreciated.

My brother wants a Remote Controlled car that is basically a scale model of his classic car. He is not worried about top speed or doing jumps, just something to drive around on his porch and sidewalk for fun. I've checked with various hobby shops that sell RC car bodies and parts, there is no bodies made of this car. But I have found a 1/18 scale model of the car. However, the model is made of metal, which would hurt the RC car's performance. More weight would mean more work for the RC car just to move around, assuming laws of gravity apply to RC cars ;-).

This brings me to two problems I have not yet been able to overcome:
*First, the body. I don't know how much the weight of the metal body will hurt the RC car's functionality. Is there a way to make a custom car body by using a metal model body as a template? I got two of the models, one to display, one just for this project, so damage to the template body is not a problem.
*Second, the RC car frame. Since this is an authentic 1/18 scale of an actual car, the wheelbase is not compatible with any RC frame I have found so far. The wheelbase I need is 6 & 7/16 inches long, and 4 & 3/4 wide (with tires).

If I can get past those two issues, I can start worrying about figuring out what I need to make a RC car run. And If I am successful, I'm thinking of making a RC car of my own car, as I know they make 1/18 models of it as well. 8)

Thanks again for any/all information, leads, etc.

1966 Chevelle is what I am trying to do currently.

If successful, I will be doing a 1987 Monte Carlo SS Aerocoupe (there are 1/18 models of an '85 SS that I can use to make an '87 Aerocoupe).

Thanks.
