Digital Calipers?

I have a cheap digital caliper I got from harbor freight on sale(I think like $15-20). It is just as accurate as a more expensive analog dial caliper I have. Works well enough for what i do. For a hobbyist it works great "thumbsup"

You have been debating a $20 purchase for 5 months now. If there is one thing that can't be said about you, it's that your compulsive.

haha if you knew me personally im definatly not a impulse buyer. but i tend to keep things for 10+ years so it works good for me.

In my opinion cheap calipers are just that... CHEAP. Mind you I work with $200 IP-67 Mitutoyo 6" calipers but after you have bungled parts due to cheap calipers you will regret ever buying them in my opinion. Check on Ebay for a used pair of nice older calipers. You never know what you can find. Don't discount good quality vernier calipers either. While harder to read they are" solid state" so that can be a bonus! "thumbsup"

that thousands of an inch becomes critical at times

and even if the hole is marked to the .001 tolerance you want how well can you place
the drill bit there

then of course we could be using micrometers .......for that extra .0001 accuracy
