Double A Battery Packs

jagg said:
I've seen that these are getting more common. Just wondering the pro's and cons if any?

Pro:
Good, high discharge capable AA cells hold more mA than sub-aa sizes.
Usually fairly Cheap compared to similar capacity fractional AA size.
Lighter/Smaller than sub-C.

Con:
Higher internal resistance than fractional AA cells.
Seem to loose their punch a lot faster than sub-AA.
In my experience, they are more affected by cold temps than sub-AA sized cells... probably because of the internal resistance.
Don't hold anywhere near the capacity of subC cells.
There are a lot of over-rated capacity cells out there.

Well if you do come across a good hi-drain AA, then the main thing you will notice is a weight savings and a little less runtime. IB makes a good 2000Mah cell and the CBP1650 is a great cell too. Some things to consider:

-AA are much smaller in diameter but longer than sub-C
-AA offer weight savings but sacrifice runtime.
-Crawlers do not demand constant discharges of more than 20 amps max. Bursts can get up to 100 at times, but for the most part, they stay around 5-10 amps just driving around. This is good for cell choices. The racers demand hi-performance cells, where the crawlers can use just about any "motor" cell without hurting anything.

can i ask a question? Sorry if i am taking this thread over:roll:

Will it be ok to run just a 6 cell 2700 mAh AA battery pack but plug it in my B/C slot on my receiver so that 7.2v will power the servo's and a 9.6v batt pack will power the motors. or will this overload the everything?

i will be running

tekin rebel 2
Airtonics front servo
hitec rear servo
2x 55t lathe motors

Thanks

james

EDIT~ can i make a 9.6v battery pack using AA cells until i buy some other battery packs?

Chris what do you think of sony 2500 mah batteries? are they any good? i made a 7 cell pack and tried it on my xrc tlt with 13 tooth gear and a outrunner with a quark controller from JRH, i also was running 2.2 moabs and got around 45 min runtime, i did notice a drop in performance for the last 10-15 min though, you think i would be better of buying sub c, i also want to run aa on my clods, or should i just go with the sub c?
sorry for the thread jack;)

moondust1950:
That pack should work fine assuming your servos can handle 7.2V

If you have been having good luck with them, then use em'. But they're pry not a true 2700mah/hi-drain. I can get almost an hour from an Elite1500 pack.
