Drag brake on brushed motor

I currently use two 2.2 rock crawlers with the following setups:
- Mamba Max with a brushless 850kv motor
- Micro side winder with an Integy Lathe 55T motor (about 1000 Kv)

On both escs the drag brake is set to 100%, but while the mamba max with the brushless motor as real strong drag brake, the second configuration, micro side winder with high turn brushed motor, has very poor drag brake or nothing at all. I would like to understand if the very limited drag brake (I repeat it is set to 100%) is due to the esc or to the fact that I use a brushed motor.
In other words drag brake works significantly better with brushless motor rather than brushed ones or not ?

Thanks
Filippo

Here's my take on it:

Drag brake can be affected by a number of things. The ESC, the motor, the motors brushes and springs, and even the pinion mesh.

I have just changed a Sidewinder for a Te kin FXR, and the drag brake is twice as strong now. I do think that the Castle ESC's drag brakes are not that strong.

I had the same question. My cheapo Mtronics had far beter drag brake than a sidewinder even though I had it set at 100%. I browsed the manual and it says that drag brake is to simulate the effect brushed motors have on brushless motors. So I gave it a try and swapped the Maxx titan motor for an old feigao 540 I had laying around. Voila the rig now had amazing drag brake like dropping an anchor! Too bad the motor was a bit on the speedy side (5t small), so I had to go back to the titan.
