currently putting my driveshafts together and cant seem to get 2 of the newly designed cap retainers on the pin is just a hair too long. its the female side of the driveshaft with the cup shaped cap. any advice is this a common problem thanks

Putting a Creeper together as well and I just had this same issue on the same two shafts. I had to grind the pins down a little less than a mm to get the sleeves to fit over the joints.

I also had to sand the outer stub axles to get the 5x10 bearings to slide on. And tap one of the holes in the transmission outdrive for the final gear to bolt up (there was literally no threads in one of the four holes). And sand the shock pistons to fit smoothly in the bores, and file two of the diff side gears so the axles would slide in.

On one hand, it's nice to have a snug fit after some minor clearancing. On the other, it's kind of a pain to have to check clearances on everything before I just go ahead and assemble it.

And how do I check for a "tick" of play between the pinion and spur when I can't easily rock the spur back and forth with my fingers like I'm used to?

To check the "tick" of play... Turn a drive shaft... Or stick a screwdriver in there thru the back window of the tranny an move one of the gears.... Next, if ur goin to be serious bout crawling, ur goin to change the shocks an the drive shafts anyways
