Anyone have any suggestions on how to dye some chrome rims blacK? I gave it a try but the dye won't stick to the chrome plating. Any ideas on how to strip the plating off without damaging the rims?

I could try some spray paint but figure t would get scrached up way to easily to look decent.

I think you might be SOL unless you sand off all the chrome or sometihng. I say just paint them, do a few layers, it'll be fine ;)

Rite Dye. Wallmart. Cheap 'N Easy. Cook it up, soak 'em and watch the crome morph into the land of color........

I already tried the dye and it didn't stick at all to the chrome. Wheels look like they would be very ahrd tos and down as they are OFNA 5 spoke deep dish 2.2.
May try some spray paint

i know this is a bit late but i was removing the ca holding my tires in my rims with acetone nail polish remover and it ate the chrome right up (unfortunately) the rims are now completely white with no effect on the actual rim

I'm surprised that dying them didn't work. I just dyed 4 chrome Pro-Line Mambo rims 2 nights ago and it worked great.

2 packs of Black Rit Dye Powder.
1.5 Cups of Salt.
Enough boiling water to fill a sink.

Miked it all together in the sink, and submerged the rims for 30 minutes. Rinsed them off under cold water and presto..............I'm the proud owner of 4 pimped out black rims.

Easy off oven cleaner will take that chrome right off. Just did mine the other night and only takes about 10 minutes. Just soak em down with the cleaner, wait about 10 min and then rinse off with soap and water. This works better than sanding 'cause it gets in all the nooks and crannies well. The dye will stick to the white plastic well. On the other hand, the black dye looks much better over chrome. Pimped out indeed......Bill

Only some manufacturers make their chrome wheels so you can die them. For instance, you cannot die HPI Savage chrome wheels. Most proline chrome wheels can be dyed, etc.

What color is your sink? :flipoff:

Well, it WAS a nice stainless steel..............................

However, if you like a crappy stained greyish-black lookin' sink, it seems RIT Dye works great to obtain it!

Luckily a little elbow grease with a scrubby-pad and some cleaner fixed that surprisingly easy..............
