E-Maxx transmission info

I've been looking at e-maxx transmissions for a crawler project and can't figure out what I'm reading? Probably because I've never operated one. I like the way it mounts and hangs the drives out the bottom.

Some have FOC which I believe is a forward only?

Others say they have reverse gears? Does it have to be shifted to reverse? Wouldn't the speed controller just turn the motor back wards?

I know it's two speed and have seen some with three and a opti something which looks like an electronic control...

Can someone explain it's operation to me? Thanks in advance.

FOC means Foward Only, like you said. FOC conversions are done on the T-Maxx and REVO trucks because they are shifted into reverse instead of reversing the rotation of the motor because you cant make a nitro engine run backwards to go in reverse.

The OPTIdrive is a feature on the new Maxx trucks and the REVO. The OPTIdrive monitors the transmission and will not let it shift into foward or reverse until the truck has come to a complete stop.

The most popular thing done to the E-Maxx trans is to lock it into first gear, there is a write up on it in the "how to build a maxx crawler" thread

On all of those (except for the 2 speed part) you are thinking about the T Maxx tranny. Stick with an E tranny, the T tranny takes some work to get it to work properly and is huge.

I thought the t-Maxx and E-Maxx were the same tranny? The only one I have seen out and had my hands on is the E-Maxx.

They are different... If I recall correctly(Which I doubt) when mounted in their normal position the Tmaxx trans spins counterclockwise and the Emaxx trans spins clockwise... Not that you can't turn them around, but just a little more info on it

trannies do run different. the diffs in an e-maxx are installed the opposite of the t-maxx ones. meaning where the diffs mount between the bulkheads, the diff is flipped over making it run the opposite direction so the tranny has to run opposite to push the truck in the same direction

i run a t-maxx tranny in my rig and i had no difficulties mounting a motor mount to it and making it go. All i did was take an RC10 motor mount and chop it in half and it bolted right up to the case

The emaxx trans is different. It has to be shifted by a servo. For crawling we normally lock it into 1st gear and don't use the servo. Search for threads on how to do that. The Tmaxx trans shifts by centrifugal force. When it reaches a certain speed it shifts into 2nd gear buy itself. There is an adjustment to set the shift point on the tmaxx trans.

If you are looking for one get the emaxx trans. Don't mess with the tmaxx trans. I'm sure it can be used but why get one when most people are using emaxx transmissions.
