Easy way of downloading to iTunes?

Well that's what I thought but the iTunes is already on the 6.3 version so where is this 10.5? And the iPod touch is on 5.1.1

On the laptop you're plugging larry's iPod into that tells you to update larry's iPod to 10.5 or later, what iTunes version is on there?

i've always had my gripes with apple's protection software myself on it. i have an ipod that the ex left behind, bricked to the point that itunes restore wouldn't do it. so i eventually fixed it, then set about making it work for me. for me, i just use a player on the computer called banshee, don't know if its been ported to windows or mac, but it does everything except a full itunes restore. this includes ripping and writing to an ipod, and pretty much any player i've hooked up to it.

if you really want to kit apple to the curb on a compatible device, re-flash the firmware on it to rockbox. had a few players i've converted to rockbox over the years, runs great as long as the installer supports it (ALWAYS check the device list against your serial number). the only reason that i haven't re-flashed my ipod is because rockbox doesn't support apple drm protected files.

the stupid thing about the ipod and itunes for me is that they don't support ogg vorbis files, a free file protocol. granted, i can see why apple wants to pad the wallet, but just about every other player on the market supports .ogg. half of my collection (cd rips) was in .ogg when i got the ipod going again, so i had to rip everything into itunes, then have doubles on my primary linux computer to weed out when i did a full import from the ipod.

Rockbox, sure. And doesn't it also do FLAC files? I think so. Good option for some.

.ogg? Outdated, yes?

eh, i like .ogg. may be a remote holdout on it. works well on my phones and computer.

and never did try any FLAC on a rockbox player, and since they are always refining it, it probably does. before i think about doing any player i always download the newest installer and read through the features list again. the ipod hasn't pissed me off enough. yet.
