So I just snagged one, I love the way it looks, I love that it’s 4 link and the axles don’t wander like the tempers did.
I’m testing it against an Ambush. Maybe that’s not fair cause the Ambush s more expensive but they are both small! I don’t like the leaf springs on the Ambush, but it drives and crawls fine for now so it’s the benchmark at the moment.
The Ambush seems more high end. Definately the radio and build quality.
The servo on the Ambush seems stronger as well, on first test of the Barrage the servo seems weak. At least on mine, and it seems like you can have motor or servo but not both, if I’m going slow the instant I turn the wheels, the motor slows down or stops if I’m going really slow. Anyone else have that?
Control overall seems less good than the Ambush, you can get it to go slow, but then that whole turning thing comes into play. It’s brand new so I will probably get used to compensating with the trigger when I turn but I haven’t found a sweet spot yet. Getting over obstacles is tricky, you have to use a bit of oomph to bash your way over stuff, it can crawl but it’s hard, it bogs down and you have to give it a lot of throttle to get over stuff, but then it’s launching over things rather than crawling or at least it is now until I get really good at backing off the power once it makes a bit of progress. The drag brakes kinda grab a little (you have to be pretty old to get that it’s a Jackson 5 cartoon reference)
Speed wise it runs circles around the Ambush, but it’s not as good at going slow.
I’m thinking of making a Micro RC truck night type course and then have them go head to head! We will see how they do.

So how do I make it better, without breaking the bank? Any way to get the servo to not affect the motor speed? I figure a stronger servo will only make the slowing down thing worse.

The 1/24 Barrage transmission lacks enough gear reduction for the high ratio axle gears. It's a common problem in ring and pinion axles at this scale.

The most effective and best bang for the buck so far is the RC4WD V2 transmission. Its the new replacement for the first version Mini Gelande transmission. You just need to make some simple brackets.
I suggest looking at the other 1/24 Barrage builds in this sub forum

I honestly think more down low weight & softer springs would make a huge difference.

Why jump on the bandwagon, when you can ride the Short Bus?

Lower center of gravity is always welcome, but that's not the biggest issue it has. As he's described the lack of gearing gives poor speed low throttle control. It jumps off the line rather than slowly moves. It also lacks torque. More gear reduction is definitely needed even with lowering the COG
