hey guys I just put the ax31144 AE-5 ESC on my wraith and im not exactly sure what im doing wrong, but I don't feel like the drag brake is working properly, my buddies machine when you set it and try and roll it you feel like you are going to break something, when I do that to mine it still rolls fairly easy. when I climb up something it still rolls back a bit before stopping its self. is this normal for this speed control? thanks for the help

AE-5 is about as entry level as it gets. Track down an AE-2, you'll be much better off.

Motor quality and wear also contributes to poor braking. Half worn out stock Axial motors don't brake well at all.

totally agree. I was thinking the motor is the issue here, or drag brake set too low

I just put a brand new holmes 35t in it with new spur and pinion, i didnt realize that was such an intry level speed controller that is probably my main issue. Altho i do believe my POS radio or reciever just went out on me tonight....when i plug my battery in it goes to complete full throttle and jerks around like no other

I put the AE-5 in alot of my rigs with brushed motors, its a basic but easy to use ESC...I have read about people having issues with them, but I never have had any issues...I have used over a dozen of them without fail...

I have heard the same, they are pretty reliable, the guy at the hobby store said the same about them being reliable. Unfortunately for me im dealing with some 'high end' rc guys so of course im expecting my intry level equiptment to perform as there does.
