Hey guys, so I have a wraith based truggy that I'm building and I'm getting down to the end where I need to figure out the electronics and everything I'm going to use. I have a castle creations sv2 esc. I'm new to all of this esc and motor combos with the sensorless and brushless and all the like. The sv2 is sensorless though, and from what I've heard sensored is much smoother and Easier to control. I do some bashing but a lot of kinda slow paced obstacles or some hill climbs. I have quite a few questions like, can I run a sensored motor? If so, how will that perform? Also what is a good motor to go with this? Do I need to look for a sensored esc? Any and all help is appreciated.

If you want to have good control at slow crawling speed you'll need either a brushed motor or a sensored brushless motor with a sensored ESC. A good sensored motor and ESC will provide excellent low-end performance on par with a brushed motor and usually provide a much higher top-end. I'm quite partial to the offerings from Holmes Hobbies. Some of it is pricey but it's top of the line and, IMO, well worth the investment. There are a lot of other good combos out there as well, including a lot of stuff on the classified here.

There's a lot more info over on Harley's sticky: http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/axial-wraith/346212-choosing-motor-esc-your-wraith-gearing-added.html

Can I run a brushed sensored motor with the sv2 esc and still have smooth control for crawling? Such as a 27t motor from Holmes

Brushed motors don't need sensors. You can use the SV2 with a brushed motor and it will be smooth for crawling. That's what I would recommend at this stage since you already have the ESC for it and a good brushed motor can be had relatively cheaply.

Also, while I'm thinking of it.. if I got a Holmes torquemaster expert 540 27t and ran it with th sv2 esc, would it be a plug and go? And I'm looking to get a couple of batteries, what would a good battery that'll Hold a charge and offer plenty of power?
