For brushed only, BR-XL.

For brushed/sensored brushless, HH BRE Pro, Traxxas ET-3S(MMP Clone at 60% of cost) then MMP.[/QUOTE]

I agree! In addition to the brushed or brushless esc category, ya may consider the castle mamba micro x! Im using this esc on my wraith with grrat results. It is tiny with on the fly drag brake adjustments but is limited to 3s.

I just realized how horrible my perfectly-designed Excel table of ESC's and specs looks in Tapatalk; what a shame. :(

EDIT: Fixed. :)

For better or worse, I'm going to cave and include the specs for the pullout-only Axial ae2 and Traxxas et-3s esc's; will update the tables soon.

For crawlers, the Axial AE-5. For non-crawlers, the Dynamite DYNS2210. They're simple but they work, and I haven't had one burn out. The waterproof switches are a nice touch too.

I wanted to like the Tekin FX-R, but the braking function is stupid. You have to hit the brakes within a certain number of seconds after letting off the throttle, otherwise it engages reverse mode even if the vehicle is still moving forward. It's so easy to tell if a brushed motor is still spinning, because it will feed a small amount of electricity back into the ESC when the vehicle is coasting, so having a braking function that doesn't account for this simple and easy-to-measure piece of information is inexcusable.

Is it possible that the for is either in the wrong mode (non-crawler) or that the drag brake is turned too far down? Usually peeps love it for crawling. :|

I was using the FX-R for a touring car, so I wasn't running it in crawler mode. That's how I discovered that it would engage reverse after 3 seconds of coasting even if the vehicle was still moving forward. Great way to shred a plastic-gear touring car transmission, by the way.

The really crappy part is, I actually bought the FX-R after talking to Tekin and complaining about the same problem on the Castle Sidewinder 3 I had tried previously. The guy I talked to at Tekin assured me that the FX-R was smart enough to sense if the motor was still spinning before deciding whether to engage the brakes or engage reverse. He was wrong.

I'm sure it works great for crawling, and it's nice and small so it's easy to fit, though it sucks that Tekin still doesn't waterproof their ESCs from the factory. But crawling isn't what I needed it for, so...*shrug* oh well. The DYNS2210 might not have any tuning options, but at least it always engages the brake the first time I push the throttle trigger forward, no matter how long the vehicle has been coasting.

Wait... I'm sorry... you posted about your experience with a touring car on rccrawler.com in the "favorite brushed esc" thread to say that the one you have sucks and the company that makes it has bad support? I'm so utterly confused. [emoji37]

Believe it or not there are more rc cars on the market than just crawlers.

It's the same ESC no matter what vehicle it's used in, and I made allowances for the fact that it would be configured differently in a crawler. I'm just sharing my experiences and preferences regarding brushed ESCs.
