Rock Crawler
I'm late to this party. Like, really late. Curiosity finally got the best of me though, and for less than $60 I'm the proud(?) owner of a new FY-03. I mostly got it so I could try out a re-body idea, but I'll get to that later. First, a little review.
The Bad. You've heard most of this before.
-It's really bouncy.
-The material quality and build quality aren't great.
-The servo has the lowest resolution I've ever experienced in a proportional setup.
-The motor gets hot after just a few minutes of aggressive driving.
-No brake; it goes straight into reverse.
-It doesn't steer very sharply, so the steering radius seems bigger than it should be.
-I found several loose screws, etc. Someone put this thing together in a hurry.
The good.
-Decent run-time on the stock battery.
-It looks great. They knocked off a good-looking design, and it still looks good. I especially like the cage and the wheels.
-It's FUN. The speed and power are more than enough for zipping around indoors. Had me grinning.
-Metal parts! I'm really surprised something at this price point has so many metal parts.
-The transmitter! It's big, doesn't look like a toy, and the ergonomics are on par with (or better than) any other RTR transmitter I can think of. The fact that it comes with such a cheap car blows my mind.
So in summary, it's a toy doing a pretty good impression of a hobby-grade car. For around $60 it's hard to be mad about it's faults. Some pictures (body panels already removed):
With a Flysky transmitter for size comparison:
