Foam question

Hello.

I just got myself a set of vanquish method 1.2 inches wide one, running CI foams.

The problem i have now is that the foams slide all over the place inside the wheel. I had the china copys before, and they where fine, no problems with foams sliding around.

Is there anyway to solve this?

Seems like a bad solution, might just sell them and go back to the china rims if that the only way to fix it.

Double sided tape? Single-sided tape built up to make a tight enough fit so they don't slide? Plastidip? Fruit roll up?

I went with Pro-line foams. They fit perfect on these wheels. Im running Hyrax on them, love the combo so far.

EDIT: These where the 1.9 wheels not 2.2.

The shifting of the inner foam on the clamp ring can be solved several ways.

Double sided tape is an option, by taping the inner foam to the clamp ring.

I prefer to use a small dab of Shoe goo (or similar silicone product), gluing the inner to the clamp ring.

Crawler Innovations offers the Deuce's Wild Tuning Disc part no. CWR-3015. These closed cell discs are recommended to be run on the outside of the foam, on all four tires. These foams add width to the inner foam, they also support the outside sidewall for improved side hill maneuvering.

Another option is take scissors and cut whatever stock foams you have into 1/2" thick open cell discs and add them to the outside of your foams inside your tire.

It's tough to cover every bead lock rim on the market. When VP started out, the narrow clamp ring was the design. The RC industry has no set standards and it puts both the customer and companies in the industry into awkward positions.

I hope this helps with your problem. Let me know if it doesn't.

Seems to me the obvious solution is for CI to create a wide base option inner foam specifically designed for use with these wider wheels. Personally, I'm tired of breaking down my wheels to re-adjust the foam only to have it slip again once I start crawling.

I tried a new approach. I took the wheel clamp ring and chucked it up on my mini-lathe then I cut two radial grooves around the smooth OD. The wheels were just reassembled but the grooves seem to be holding the foam.

Crawler Innovations has made adjustments to our foam designs over the 2017 summer. The Lil' Nova foam line has received a new side profile that leaves more material to prevent lateral foam shift. The 5.5 and 6.0 Double Deuce has been adjusted and the 5.0 and 5.25 side profiles were changed all together. It's going to take a little bit for the new designs to trickle into distribution, but CI has been selling the new design for a several months now.

Nova, that's awesome and much appreciated information. Being new to crawling and the forum, it is really cool to read a thread to become more familiar with the sport and get input like this. The inside scoop.....thanks alot!!
