Well guys,

I am finally going to build a large scale trail truck. I have built a few SCX10 based rigs but was always wanting something bigger and I didn't like the look of 2.2's on a 1/10 scale truck.

I originally thought of doing an indy front end and keeping a pre-runner look for this but I am now going to build what I think Ford should have done, solid axles front and rear. This will not be built to go fast, more of a trail rig with enough wheel speed for hill climbs.

Going to make a steel channel frame with tube work. Picked up a used Wraith for driveline and axles. Other than that I'll just add whatever I need as I go.

Pics will be posted as I build.

Start building! I've been waiting for a build like this. It's probably more suited to the large scale build section though. Good luck!

Here are some prelim pics.

Overall length of the body is 27" and width is 11". Height is 7-1/8"

I am looking into material to make the frame with. Probably will use 1" square steel tubing cut in half or might try aluminum. Found some heavy 3/4" steel c-channel at Princess Auto. Might be perfect for this size of rig.

Originally was thinking of running RC4wd TTC Claws but looking at the RTR Ripsaws, I might stay with a 5.5" tire or smaller. If it doesn't weigh too much when I'm done I might try the Proline TSL's.

Looks awesome!!! Looking forward to seeing how this turns out... subscribed!

I will get this body when they clearance it out at radio shack after the holidays. Nice work man! I assume axial axles are too narrow for this body?

It looks like the wraith axles are the perfect width. Based on the pics, I would assume thats what his plans. Looking forward to see what happens with this build....

Wraith axles are perfect width. I wouldn't use the SCX10 axles because you would have to put some really large wideners on them.

Probably going to run leafs in the rear and parallel four link in front with panhard bar and CMS.

Those Wraith axles are the perfect width. Tires are a great match as well. Almost like Newbright build the body with the Wraith in mind :ror:

Not sure where in Canada you're located, but if there's a Metals Supermarkets near you, they carry square steel tubing in a variety of common small sizes (3/8", 1/2", 3/4") for rc applications.

I am in Ontario, about an hour north of Toronto. There is a Metals Supermarket just down the road from my work so I'll stop in and have a look. I think 3/4" tubing bend and split down the middle is going to work best. Anyone know where I can find 1/4" stainless steel rod? Want to use this for my links.

Boy, that body is big, I think the wraith axles are perfect, but damn if the 2.2s couldn't be a little larger!!! They will still look good under there. I'm excited to see this thing come alive."thumbsup"

Pulled my axles off of the Wraith and spaced them out at 16.5" wheelbase. Propped up the body at approximate ride height. Also picked up some steel tube to start the frame with.

I noticed that the Ripsaws at 5.5" will hit the openings on the fenders. To avoid trimming the body I will probably run some Rox Lox or TSL's because they are both listed at 5.4"

More pics to follow once the frame is setup.

The mockup looks even better on the bench. I think this thing is going to turn out well. Keep posting up!

I have to wait until Chirstmas before my wife will let me have mine. I have the red one.

Any chance you can post up some rough dimensions? Basic length and width? I think that it is more like 1/8 scale.

Anyway, looks like a great start. I'll be watching closely.
