The trial is legit and they do not spam you. The software is pretty amazing. They also have a free student version that is available.

freecad for linux is very good for being, free. also ports over to windows and mac. i use it from time to time when i need to just doodle a bit.

I have used solidedge for years. At worst they will call you and ask about their 3d software. They also have a user support forum with good tips.

fyi, the 3d is going to run you at least $3500 if you buy it.
