Furitek Lizard just fried

I received my Komodo on Friday, installed it, and went to set it up today.

I calibrated the esc, everything saved, but I didn't have throttle or reverse, checked the home screen and the esc was in brushless mode.

That's when I checked to see if there was an update, which there was one, so I started the process of updating to 1.9 and about a minute in the esc started smoking.

I purchased from AMain and contacted them to see what the next step is. I saw on their website that another one of their customers has gone through 3 Furitek Tegu ESCs, all of them fried.

I ran one pack around my apartment using the stock motor and it was very light use, so my esc was one and done. How is everyone else's Lizard holding up?

I've been running one since March and another since early May with no issues. The second one gets 30-45 minutes run time a day. Strange that it would burn up during an update, not exactly a high load conditino.

I agree, it was weird. I was not holding my transmitter and the SCX was in front of me.

At first I thought it was the battery, but that appears to be fine and when I unplugged the battery from the esc, the plugs were cold, so it's definitely not something the battery caused.

The review on AMain mentions an issue with the on/off button.

Wow, real bummer to hear that! Seems like you’ve been having a tough time with Furitek. I’ve been nervous since my friend accidentally fried his stock ESC by accidentally plugging the battery backwards, but so far I’ve had good experience with the Lizard.

I’ve got probably ~12 packs on mine with a brushed 050motor, and now 4-5 packs since installing the brushless motor on Friday, with no noticeable issues. I even coated the Lizard with conformal coating and did some splashing at the river. I notice that the Furitek gets pretty warm during operation, but it doesnt seem to cause issues. I have it mounted with hot glue, I figure if the glue melts I’ll know it got too hot!

EW, are you on facebook? There is a Furitek owners group there where the owner and engineers often help people with similar problems.

I am not, but the only solution is to replace, I don't see how they could help me other than to ship me a new ESC and trust that I send the one I have back (FYI, this is not my expectation).

The ESC was smoking, I heard some crackling, and it smelt like electronics burning. I plan on calling AMain if I don't have an email from them by tomorrow afternoon.

From what you see on that group, is this a common problem or I just happened to get a bad one type of thing?

What concerns me is the reviewer on AMain stated that they have gone through 3 Furitek ESCs and I need to clarify this, because I initially stated they were Lizards, they were actually Tegu's

Heard back from AMain today and they are sending me another ESC once they are back in stock. This is not what I expected, but am very happy about it. Both times I have had to deal with AMain they treated me right and took care of me.

I really hope this is an isolated incident.

Same here... 3 months ago.

Furitek sent me a free replacement, after Asiatees, where I had bought my Lizards, had not responded to (Furitek-) mails for nearly 3 months.
