I am buying a set of Goodyear MT/R 2.2 from RC4WD and i have a question.
I know they are not very popular but what foams are you guys using in them ?

Crawler innovation recommends Double deuce 6.0 without the tuning ring. It would be around 5.75inch and the tires are 5.63inch. If you substract lug thickness and carcass (since it goes inside the tire), isnt it going to be way too tight ?

I fully trust Eddie from CI but i just wanted to hear some feedback before i buy them.
Has anyone tried a 5.5 foam ? or maybe the stock foams ?

Should i go with single stage foams in the MT/R for trail and bashing use and swap back to the kit BFG Baja T/A for rock crawling ?

Thanks

I have a set of them on my Bomber and I love them. I have tried several different tires, and these are by far my favorite. I am currently running just the stock foams. RC4WD has redone the foams for their newer tires coming out so I figured I would give them a shot. So far they have been pretty good. I do plan to upgrade to a set if the CI dual stage foams in the future. That is just my opinion. Good luck and I hope you like them as much as I do. When you get them, let us know what you think. I am curious to see other people's experiences with them. Here is a quick shot of mine.

I’ve learned Eddie is quite sharp, and has tested a bunch, and gets input. That said ask him that, I would suspect with a MT tire, you don’t want the air space, that is great for slow crawling, but at speed the tires do the pizza cutter thing, and can fold over and get squirley

Hang up and Drive

I agree new stock foams are inproved and quite good.
it also depends if you use it more for crawling or u4 style driving and bashing
as an option i suggest Crazy Crawler 2.2 laser cut single stage foams

No offense but the link is in german and when i tried to use ".com" i got a security alert...

I'll stick with crawler innovation [emoji41]

".de" stands for Deutschland, or Germany.

Their website URLs end in that extension.

If you open it with Google Chrome, it should give you a pop-up that asks if you'd like the page translated.

However, their foams are very old-school, basically a modified star-cut.

Definitely go for more modern foams such as CI...

Unfortunately I haven't had them out yet. They are going on my b2b that will be more of a go fast basher and will crawl sometimes.

But if your building a go fast basher, get the DW foams. If your just crawling, get the dual stage foams.

Another quick question : Should i vent them while using the CI foams ?
If so, can i use a 2mm drill bit to make the hole ?
I don't have a leather punch.

For the new tires i will buy a leather punch (2mm) but for my kit tires, they are mounted already. Should i just use a drill bit?
Or maybe a needle, heated to "melt" the rubber?

A hot nail or small drill bit hole is fine. Needles are too small...

Necroing an old thread...

I can't get the damn MT/R to work with crawler innovation foams and my chanquish wheels...

I tried both 5.5 and 6.0 double deuce and I have the same issue, the bead won't center properly.
There is always a side that sticks out as if the tires were Oval instead of round.

The wheels are 35mm wide and use an internal metal ring.

I tried rubber bands and freezing the tires but nothing works.

I'm about to throw them in the trash and buy another 2.2 tire

Seems like the issue is the CI foams
I tried the stock RC4WD foams and the bead will sit perfectly.
I need to find a solution, I got 2 sets of CI foams collecting dust...

I will try to talk with Eddy
