GoPro alternative for crawler videos?

Hmmm. Honestly I'm not really interested in 4K to keep file sizes somewhat reasonable. But I definitely think I want 60 FPS.

The Yi Lite offers 60 FPS at 1080 (HD) so you should be fine.

It looks like an overpriced GoPro hero 6 or even Yi 4k+...

So these cameras will make a fish eye view??? How do I get it to take regular video like my phone would?

Eeek fisheye....

Buy a 90 degree lens version or use software correction

Gitup have 90 degree versions of pretty much all their models as far as i can remember.

Right here and now i would go for the preorder 1/2 price on the Sjcam SJ8 pro that at least on the paper look like awesome cameras, only lacking 1080/240 if you ask me.

I really REALLY hope Sjcam send me one of the Sj8 pros to beat on.
That's way too expensive for an SJCAM product!

Your cellphone has fisheye and you just don't realize it.

Any editing software worth its weight, even the free ones, offer fisheye correction.

Anyone have ant recommendations?

how about the carpenter?
bullet ants? fire ants?

sorry, i had to! :lmao:

btw i saw the hero session on sale at my target for... 89 bucks i think? just saying, you don't always have to pay full price for the gopro name.
i like that Yi though.

I use a thieye i60e, which I have found to be awesome, and for around $60 including a waterproof case, two batteries, and a few mounts, its hard to beat on price. You can connect it to your phone via wifi and watch the action/control the camera remotly, but it also has a screen on the back.
Its 4k@30fps, 2.7k@30fps, 1080p@30 or 60fps, or 720p@60 or 120fps. 12mp, decent slowmo, and also has a time lapse option, which is awesome. I would definitely buy it again.

That looks like a deal right there! I may need another one.

I would like the record to show that I restrained myself on this one for once ;-)

You are right with the Sj8 pro they are definitely heading for unchartered waters for them.
But if you look at the hardware specs its also some of the top notch stuff, and all the bells and whistles are there. 4K/60 ASO only lacking 1080/240 as i mentioned.
Then again for the speed of these things on this forum i find the 1080/120 i have do just fine for cool slomo shots.

Most action cams today have build in de-fish so the camera can deal with that, this of course mean you loose some of the FOV.
The same happen if you do it in post production, this should also be a option in most newer editing software.
Only a few like Gitup offer 90 degree lenses from the factory, with the only option being to look up peau productions or similar and but a lens to put on your camera.

I have the first Session. I got mine for not much more. I'm not impressed.

1. The battery isn't replaceable, not even by GoPro, so when it's dead the camera is junk.
2. It stays on unless you go into the tedious menu system to turn it off. Hitting the power button merely turns off the display.

I don't think GoPro will survive much longer. I give the company less then 5 years for sure. I'm not sure if GoPro or Tesla dies first.

Ok so the Yi Lite. Will do 720/1080 at 60FPS, can connect to a phone, and has swappable batteries.

I guess my last question is what case and flexible tripod should I use?

Yes a MED / Large gorilla pod are a must have, i also use some of my cameras on a "stick" meaning i have a thin monopole screwed into the screw mount on the bottom ( of my SJ6 legend and air ) so i can just jab those cameras into the ground like a gate.

Using several cameras on a take are nice if the section dont really lend itself to go / stop / relocate camera / go recording and it is larger than can be covered by 1 camera.
And i dont know about you guys, but i find that often driving a line, resetting to drive it again, and suddenly you have a really hard time driving the same line you just did, and that can ruin a recording.

I am hoping to get a gimbal to have on the end of a selfie stick or just in the hand depending on layout on the spot.

I am even working on a wire camera gimbal, taking parts from my micro losi crawler so i can drive a gimbal back and forth on a string strung between 2 things.
Not really meant for use with the scalers but more like drone shots in places where drones are hard / risky to fly and higher off the ground.
Already have the fly wire which are 100 M of 4 mm para chord.

My stepson is a marathon runner who videography's all his runs. He was showing me some of his raw footage from a run he had done with his new Rylo 360 camera. It was pretty amazing some of the things that he willbe able to do. Was thinking about getting a new action camera. I have a Runcam 2 & a Mobius, neither have a view finder so framing is always been guess work unless I wanted to take the time to connect the Runcam to wifi. Was considering the Yi 4K then I see the Rylo 360 which looks cool but is another $300 over the YI 4k.

Anybody have any experience with a 360 camera for trailing/crawling?
