so when are we going to form an actual crawler club?? or is this going to be typical grand jct attitude??? i have been crawling here in this area for almost 2 years now and have not seen or crawled with a single other person. i have put up multiple offers to crawl on here and no response....all i hear about is the raceplace. i have a course in fruita many locations on the monument and several others out west. so anyone interested; i am now going to start up my own crew. i have a shop full of tools to fab and repair so if you need help on your rig or just tools and a spot let me know...i have a test n tune right outside the door. lets get this crew started and start dominating these gj area comps and such.....

We're all on the same team bro ;-) Hey I know how you feel, I tried to do a gtg once too and nobody came hehe  Or actually people came but not all at the same time.

The club has already formed centered around the monthly competition. Come to this next competition. There are lots of guys here you can hook up with. There are several cliques that go crawling together quite often.

I'd sure like to be able to go crawling more too but with an 11 month old running around now I am having a hard time getting out right now. I really wanted to take my motorcycle out that day you went to the monument but I got stuck at home again :-(. Just keep posting up gtgs, sooner or later someone will show.

970Krew is where its at. =) My crawler is currently down for repairs, and I ahve not had it out in some time now. Chenging jobs and takinga pay cut kind of hurt my hobby budget.

I found a couple places less than 10 miles from Grand Junction about 5 miles south of Whitewater that has ample parking, but damn it, I think I am going to be giving the Parks & Rec office a call again to see if we can comp at Devil's Kitchen. That park is really awesome, and I still haven't found a spot in or near Grand Junction that has as good rock crawling. There is lots of parking there, bbq grills, restrooms :x:x:x:x I'm getting mad just thinking about it.

We are definitely not going to be having the competition at High Desert Raceplace this month. The work is only about 10% completed and to further complicate things, there was an irrigation pipeline break which flooded the whole area.

If anyone has any suggestions for an area that we can use to host the competition, post it up. Please give good directions and names so we can check it out. Pictures are great too. We need an area with good parking. Unless anyone says otherwise, I am going to be looking for areas up to 25 miles from Grand Junction now too. I only traveled about 8 miles south of Whitewater, but I probably should have kept going because the two sites I found were ok, but not 'great'. Great is Devils Kitchen!!!!!! :-(

There were a couple suggestions on some other posts, but I can't seem to find it now. Was there a place south of Loma?

If anyone has been to Devil's Kitchen, that is what I am looking for in a crawler site. Lots of slick rock, loose rock, impossible hill climbs.... etc..

Matt, If you go just a little further down south of Whitewater you find a road that heads left. It is called Cactus Park. ( If that is the correct spelling?) It has been a few years sense I have been in there but there is a rock quary in there. It might be worth checking out. I will not have any time off this week except for Saturday, so I appologize for not giving you better directions. Also one of guys that has been making the tube bodies for Andie's shop was talking about some places in Palisade. They sounded like a lot of fun.

yeah i highly enjoy crawling at the campground on the monument...have never been ran off by the rangers there....but always just one or two crawlers....another great spot with ample parking and no issue of allowances is the bentonite area up little park road. the hillside is completly full of course possiblities....and parking for plenty of people on top and bottom of the hill. you could have a comp at a diff spot on the monument every month and never hit the same place twice in years.....

if you want to go west....i can give you years of crawling close to your 25 mile zone....lol. i grew up riding dirt bikes out west and working in the oil patch out there and i can take you to a new spot all day long....and i mean quality crawling.

The location is now set at Whitewater. Be prepared, this competition is going to be tough. The terrain is some of the best, better than Riggs Hill and Bangs Canyon. We will have a whole new set of judges who have experience in full scale rock crawlers. The rules this time around will be more technical.

There has been a time change, check in is at 8AM. The way to get there is:
Travel east on Hwy 50 to Whitewater. Take Highway 141 south for 2.8 miles. The location is at the first cattle gate. There is parking just south and east of the road after the cattle gate, or if you want, take your vehicle up the small trail east and just north of the cattle gate. I will put up a sign so everyone will know.

I hope everyone will have their crawler ready. This site is has a lot of potential to hold many crawling events.

If you have any questions about the event, please call Andy at the High Desert Raceplace http://www.highdesertrc.com/

pretty bold statement to make....better than bangs canyon...not sure what the point of driving so far is when theres so much crawling in town, but whatever

But there isn't a lot of crawling in town that has ample parking for a competition. Maybe for a solo guy like you, there are plenty of spots where you can park one or two cars. I am looking for spots that can accommodate 20 or more vehicles as that is about how many we had at the last couple competitions.

I should clarify, this area is better than the area where we had the competition at Bangs Canyon. Bangs has some really good crawling, but not everyone in the club has jeeps where we can get to the absolute best spots. I am still looking for a spot at Bangs Canyon that is accessible to regular cars.

Drilldeep, you sound competitive. If you want to do some real crawling competitively, come this Saturday to Whitewater. We have this 14 year old kid here named Dayton that I'd bet you $50 his crawler would would whip your crawlers ass.

You won't be disappointed in this spot at Whitewater. This location we found is tough, and like I said, leaps better than the last two spots.

hahaha....bettin a workin man against a 14yr old huh?? that sounds fair....im sure the spot is tough, i just dont feel the need to travel all the way to whitewater to drive my toy truck. I am competitive, but i learned long ago you dont bet on motorsports of any sort unless you want to lose. besides it would take me at least that 50 bucks in gas just to get out to that event, and seeing as this would be my first toy crawling competition, i wouldnt waste a bet on it. lol anyway i hope you guys get my twisted sense of humor and i dont come off sounding like a prick on here....im just anxious. the western slope should have the best crawlers in the country...because we have the best crawling in the country!!!!

2 days and 3 nights is all you have to get ready  Better tighten those bolts, stock up on some extra driveshafts or whatever it takes to get ready. I have seen some really awesome rock crawlers lately that is starting to make me rethink my setup.

Also, please brush up on the official ruleset. This competition things are going to get very technical. We have a couple judges now that know the ins-and-outs of the competition, and they have been studying the rules for weeks already. They are taking things very seriously and I am sure everyone appreciates their effort. They are both so serious, that they pre-ran the course, and they are taking themselves out of the competition due to that very rule. I told them to go ahead and comp anyway, and they said no. So don't expect any slack from them. Steve and Bill are going to be the new judges, and likewise they will hold the drivers meeting.

Also, if you are looking for an awesome tuber, you might want to talk to Steve. He builds them, and from what he told me, prices are very reasonable.

We have a couple parking spots up on the trail saved for Doug and Don, please do not take them.

Make sure to bring some water, bug spray, and some food for yourself. We plan on finishing up at noon, however it will already be hot by then.

We are going to be running two at a time as well to try to rush things up. The courses are going to be very long too.

If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to contact me, or contact Andy at High Desert Raceplace.

-Matt

FYI, I won't be running the next competition, but I believe the next competition will be at the High Desert Raceplace in August, and in September, the competition will be at Rifle.
