Grease type (Not a big deal ((I hope))

So when I bought my kit I ordered the CowRc "Udder Butter" grease. I used it throughout the rig, diffs, trans. I bought it because I did not think grease would be coming in the kit. I finished the truck yesterday without ever opening the white metal tube thinking it was tire glue.

I go to open the white metal tube this evening to glue the tires and its green grease! This grease seems much stickier then the red CowRc UB stuff.

Did I mess up? Will the grease I used be ok with these new high pinion style gears. I heard a lot of talk that a certain grease should be used but hopefully this is ok.

Any answers to my concern would be greatly appreciated as I hope to use these for many miles before upgrading to some ultimate, pricey axles Vanquish per say. ;-)

Really depends on the viscosity of the grease. By that I mean any grease can technically work, but depending on how thick it is it may wash out faster than thicker grease. If that happens to be the case with the grease you did get, you are just going to need to open up the diff and check bearings more often than someone using a bit thicker grease. Personally I use marine grease, it is thick, and it's washout is a lot lower than a lot of others. The trick though if your using a thicker grease is not to cake the gears or else you can wind up with binding, though the same can be said of any grease if you over pack the gears, it would just take more.

At any rate though you should be ok, just need to do your normal maintenance, though you may want to check it a little bit more often if it is thinner than the kits grease.

Udder Butter is sworn by legions of comp guys to be the best stuff. I'll make the switch when I run out of my stockpile of marine mini tubes. You'll be fine with what you did. I found the kit grease broke down pretty quickly.

Thankyou. Seems like a good tight knit community here with decent, knowledgeable people who know about the hobby. Any more things I don't know, I'll come here first instead of going to my Lhs where its hard to get an answer from the space cadets behind the counter.
