I wanna be Dave
My great grandma passed away yesterday. She was an amazing woman. She was 105 years, 5 months and 18 day old. Blows my mind to think of how long that really is. She was born in 1902. The things she has seen and lived through. Two world wars, a depression, how many Presidents, and she would write to each one and get an autographed picture of them and there wife. She had lived through so much history, just boggles my mind. I know that this last year has been the worst. Last fall my great Aunt put her in a nursing home. Up until that time she had been living in an assisted living home. She had out lived her husband who passed away in 1972. She had also out lived two of her three children.
This woman was self taught on the organ and piano, she played by ear. She was never taught how to play by sheet music until she was older. As kids we used to beg her to play for us and she always wanted us to help play along, if not at least sing. She quit playing last year because she could not see the keys. Toe tapping with the music on her 105th birthday this year. We have 5th generation pictures of her, my grandpa, my mom, my brother and his daughter on her 100th birthday. I get sad thinking that I will never see her again. I know on her birthday this year she knew who we were but could not talk or walk but she was dressed to the hilt. My grandma never left the house without her jewelry on and it always matched. Even that day she still had the bling bling going on.
Grandma I will miss you but am glad that you will be reunited with your loved ones on the other side. I know how much you missed grandpa, Aunt Janis and grandpa Wayne when they left us. I will remember the good times and keep her close in my heart.
Rest In Peace Gladys Schill. March 30th 1902 – September 18th 2007
