An H2 came through my driving clinic today. Now that I've driven it, I can support the fact it is crap. Here's why.
1. No ground clearance, the stupid nerf bars (not even rock sliders) sit way too low.
2. It looks bigger than the GMC's, and it accomplishes this by making the windows all smaller. Therefore, you get almost 0 vision out of the sucker. Forward vision is especially hard.
3. All of the fit and finish is ****. Absolute ****. This hummer was an 05, low miles. Each door panel had 1/2 an inch or more flex to it, the "oh ****" handles flexed under light pressure, the airbag panel on the passenger side had atleast an inch of flex at the seems. The allen screws they use to make the interior beefy looking are all marred and fogged stainless. The size of the compartment doors is MASSIVE, then you open the doors and the actual size of the storage compartments is compact car size.
4. Speaking of fit and finish. What the f is up with all the plastic on the outside? You get lame plastic grille plated in chrome, lame plastic bumpers, plastic plastic plastic. Where the heck is that $50k going to?
5. Acceleration is crap. It begs for downhills. I could out accelerate it in a 4 cylinder ford escort missing its back left tire and starting in 2nd gear with a slipping clutch. Its way too heavy, way underpowered.
6. It is quite nimble. I'll give it that. The steering is very tight and responsive. Whoops, what's that? It suspension is super dumpy? Hmmm... dumpy suspension + tight steering = disaster. Upon heavy braking the rear tires actually unloaded enough that both rear tires scrubbed the ground (this is hard threshold braking from 15mph).
7. So you get all this for a nice healthy sum, that could get you a 4runner or jeep for the four wheeler, or a nissan murano for the soccer mom, and you'd still have lots of money left to pay for your 7 kids' college. At the end, I left the H2 with 5x as much distaste as I had for it before I drove it.
