I wanted to start a thread of my own to share my progress and have a place to ask questions. I'm new to the world of crawling so at times you might have to bear with me.

I'm still waiting on a few parts but here's an update a to where I'm at thus far.

Got it for Christmas.

Painted it, and slapped on a hitec7954 servo that I plan to power with a CCBEC...pretty standard stuff.

For an esc I chose a Tekin B1R and a losi insane motor...wow these things are TINY!

Did a lot of messing around with electronics placement trying to keep things as neat and tidy as possible...this is in process.

Made a little plate to Velcro my batt to. I ordered a couple 1000mah turnigy batts that I plan on sticking to this little guy. My thought was it would offset the weight I the motor and be fairly low. Also giving me good run times for screwing around and testing.

I've since seen that 1000mah is a huge battery! I WILL make sure my batt leads are long enough to run a smaller lipo on the front axle if I ever decide to comp or find that it's too much weight too far back.

The batt plate only weighs 2 grams so it shouldn't hurt leaving it there if I end up switching from axle to chassis for battery placement.

Powder coated it flat black

I shortened up the wires on the BEC and servo and crimped on new ends. This removed 17" of excess wire and should hopefully make things fit a little better/cleaner.

This is what I've got thus far. Could be better but I've seen worse too. I like to be average ;)

I plan on running stock for a time an slowly upgrading. I have already begun to aquire upgrades and it is killing me not to throw them on, but I want to be able to appriciate what each upgrade gains me so I am going to try and add them slowly with a lot of testing in between.

Definitely off to a really great start. I might offer a few other ideas or tips. I might offer up the idea of getting your cases off the RX and ESC and working to get them down as low as you can. Might suggest getting the esc down on the rear upper links, and getting your rx tucked down low behind your battery mount. It always amazes me how quick these things can go from good to upside down so as little "up high" weight as possible is the key.

Someone did some reading an looking around before they got of to a Great start! Straight to the head of th class with extremely well done wiring! That's a great piece of battery mount ya did, fits very clean..

As stated, decased electronics are always a plus an a space saver. Upper links are a very nice place for electronics and or a battery as well.. not much room on the axle for a battery, unless its a 300mah 2s.

As far as a heavy battery to of set the motor weight.. good idea but It's also the side of TT or body roll, so it will add to that, making it worse, just for thought..

Can't wait to see the patience you show to build slow an hold off on parts you have sitting there.. :)
There is a huge plus side of doin it that way tho. You Will always know what does what an why an will make setups easier down th road of upgrading.. keep it up, good work done.

Thanks for the kind words gents.

I have read a little (very little) about decasing the elctronics. I'm guessing it's more for space than weight? I popped the cases off and they only weigh 7 grams...but weight is weight I suppose. Is there a need for any sort of protection if I decase? ie plastidip or liquid electical tape?...I wont be running near water but they just seem vulnerable out in the open...maybe I'm worrying for no reason.

Good point about TT being towards the side I planned on mounting my battery...I wasn't sure wich direction the TT went, I had just heard it mentioned and that it can be a problem. I'm guessing from what your saying that if it leans a little towards the side of the motor that isn't necesarily a bad thing?

I'll be sure to play aound with component placement a little more and aim a bit lower. Thanks for the help.

So while I've been waiting for parts and in between sorting out my wiring I've been working on some upgrades.

For the front I've made up some offset hexes and modular weights. The hexes are 1/2" long and put my width right at 7-7/8"

The weights are removable so I can adjust more or less as I see what is needed.

I also milled 1/8" off the rear hexes to narrow it up a bit

For the back I made some brackets to hang off the axle that fit inside the wheels and keep the weight as low as possible.

Here they are assembled. Need to get some shorter set screws for the rear clamps. I could grind them down but I like havin the cup point on the end to help secure it a little better.

That is cool. If you do go one to sell something like this, keep me posted.

I wish I would have found the pro kit at the 70-80$ when they were blowing them out!

I wish I could make and sell these little guys but the equipment I have access to isn't set up for production runs. It's taken me over a week to find the time to make what I have.

So I'm finally getting around to finalizing the wiring for my mini. Does anyone know if the included cap with the B1R has a certain polarity? Or caps in general...I can't seem to find anything in the manual.

The only reason I ask is one lead is longer than the other similar to an led.

Thanks.

The side of the capacitor with the blue stripe at the front of it is the negative side.

Thanks again guys.

Getting anxious to get this thing moving...if the slow boat from china EVER shows up with my batteries...

I was just looking through the MRC threads and saw "happymachinist" so I thought this better have some cool parts.... Then I was blown away at those weights! Really nice looking. What hexes are in them? And did you send the parts away to get powder coated are is it at home kind of deal?

Thanks Cam

Thanks. I was pretty happy with how they turned out.

I was goin to make some knuckle weights to keep the weight off of the wheels but I will probably upgrade to alum or the 1:10 comp crawler knuckles and shafts down the road. I didn't want to be stuck with weights I can't use.

I made the hexes too...they are 1/2" and set my width at 7-7/8".

I powdercoat stuff as a hobby (extra beer money) I have an oven that I built that will do items as big as motorcycles and atv frames.
