Burly Mud Truck Conversion

While I personally hate mud, for some reason I was compelled to build another mud inspired truck! I had come up with a design that made bolting a huge lift onto an SCX10 a very easy process. After about a week, we had them produced and for sale through RCBros.com

Yes I know that he put Dingo instead of Deadbolt

This build will have videos released every MONDAY*.
*- or as close to that schedule as I can

Now, for my build I wanted to use the Axial Ram Power Wagon. I thought that the Ram was the most appropriate base for the crowd that would be most attracted to mud. So after a couple weeks of talking with everyone, I had all the parts on the way to get this project started! Being a mud truck I plan to have a lot of overdone and flashy items that are not needed but will look cool

Before the truck was even in the mail, I told Neal over at FreqEskinZ what I was looking for and he had a concept ready for me in short order! I noticed that all these mud trucks had cheesy names plastered on the side. So I figured I would follow suit! Now I am aware that the Power Wagon comes with a Hemi from the factory, however I have a reason for the changing that in the name. More on that part of the build to come later.

As soon as the truck arrived, I headed over to his shop so we could finalized the design.

Shortly afterwards, he pulled the print lever and we were ready to go!

After a little amusement with the basically stock truck, I got it cleaned back up and started to line up the parts to get installed. The Burly Mud Truck Conversion plates install super quickly, so only a short time later I had the truck up at the stance it will ultimately live at.

Compared to my Deadbolt it's quite a beast.

Next was to work on assembling the new Vanquish AR60 style axles. Now I went with the AR60 style axles instead of Curries for a reason. These axles allow you to easily access the ring and pinion with just the 4 simple front screws. I didn't want to have to deal with taking off the truss and servo every time I needed to service them. Since this truck will live in mud, I felt it needed to have easy serviceability.

The parts list on them was pretty substantial from the jump!

Vanquish SCX AR60 Axle Truss - Black
Vanquish SCX AR60 Servo Mount - Black
Vanquish AR60 Bearing Retainers - Red
Vanquish AR60 Diff Cover (Smooth Front and 3D Rear)
Vanquish Stage 1 kit - Red
Holmes Hobbies TorqueMaster Lockers
Axial Racing HD Underdrive gears
Fast Eddy Bearings

Stock Axle shafts Front and Rear

The reason for putting the axles together so soon was so I could start drafting up what my lower dual shock mounts were going to need to look like... :ror:

You are turning this into a Serious Mud Truck.
I like the Transformation the Burly chassis has done to my Truck.
Now I need another Crawler. :)

Be watching..

The Burly Mud Truck Conversion will work just fine with the stock shocks, but I wanted something that looked more ridiculous! So I thought dual shocks on all corners would do exactly that.

After whittling away on the lower mount, I mounted the lower end of my RC4WD King shocks in place. The conversion plates lower the skid plate down about 35mm total, so by using the 110mm shocks which are 20mm longer than the stock shocks, and by raising the lower mounting point on top of the axle, I was able to get the upper mounting point to be up near the level of the stock shock hoops again.

I used some CBERC Shock Keys to mock up the position that the upper mounts will need be located. I haven't decided for sure how I will be doing this, but I am thinking I may incorporate some tube work.

Thanks for the quick response! I've been enjoying your archive of videos, and they've been quite informative for me as I begin to sink my teeth into this hobby. One more question (and off topic) Hows the Capo Jeep build coming?

sway bars! now im impressed. will there be another video for that mod?

i get so excited when you post a new video.

then instantly depressed when its over and i have nothing else new to watch. LOL

great build!.... seems like a much needed break from the CAPO for now.

Is the Deadbolt budget build going to continue? I thought you weren't big on the RC4WD shocks?

The Deadbolt will continue but not at the weekly rate. I have more things I can do but I am just going to do videos on the items I want to as they are available. I have a new one coming soon, just waiting on some new parts to be shipped. Doing a review on some new to come items.

On the shocks, I don't think they are the best performance shock, but they look good. Since this is a mud truck, style is way high on my list! Dual 110mm kings on every corner will look cool, I'm sure of that!
