Headphone listeners

Who am I kidding? I took delivery of another pair of Sennheisers, their HD 600. Which was their top of the line some years ago. Then they came out with the HD 650, which ended up being a side-grade instead of an upgrade.

Amazon is bad, mkay.

LOL!

Since I last posted in this thread in December, I have had:

Sennheiser HD25-1 ii
Beyerdynamic DT990 32 ohm
AKG K240 MK II
Shure SRH440
Phonak PFE012

Now I have:

Meelectronics M31
Shure SE215
Koss KSC75
Ultimate Ears TF10
Audio Technica AD900
AiAiAi TMA-1

I also got an iPod a few months ago that I broke a few days ago, and two portable amps that were either sold or returned.

So much for restraint...

Hah!

I will say this now, but of course who knows how long it will hold true. The headphone search is probably over for me. Between the HD 800, HD 600, HD 595, and MM 60iP, and Apple crapbuds, I'm good! More so, I'm really itching to get the record player up and running (need a kick ass phono stage), or upgrade my digital front end, be it a new DAC or entire CD player. DAC would make much more sense really, so I should scratch the CD player of that list. But I won't!

The HD 600 is my go to lately. What's yours, Raguvian?

My go to headphone is the AD900. I haven't had a headphone as light and comfortable as that one before, so it makes long listening sessions very easy on my head. Plus the amount of detail and soundstage easily make up for its lack of bass.

I haven't heard the HD600 personally but I think that would have been a good fit for me as well. I wasn't completely sold on the HD580 and HD650 that my friends have. I actually came very close to getting the HD600 but I really didn't want to get an amp as that would open another can of worms for me. The AD900 is pretty much the best you can do without the need for an amp so I'm set with that headphone (hopefully).

BTW, do you not like IEM's? For some reason portables and IEM's suck far more of my money than full size over ears do. I'm currently eyeing the Westone 4 and praying I don't fold and buy them.

Many times I've eyeballed something like the MC5 Etymotics. I've wanted them for work, but in my environment which is seriously noisy, I still need to hear my surroundings. And I feel much better destroying Apple earbuds, as I have some spares.

I almost don't really care how good or bad my music sounds unless I'm at home. Car stereo sucks, work stereo sucks, work headphones suck, iMac sound sucks, so then I go listen on the headphone rig.

I guess that works...

The Apple earbuds never stayed in my ears anyways, but there are worse sounding things out there I suppose.

I can't believe I want to get $350 IEM's after I already have $250 IEM's and just got $200 portables.

Also, how come you got rid of the T1?

Use the foamies with the earbuds and give them a few days of getting used to, and they stay put much better. They're very mid-centric. :ror:

I never had T1s. I'd like to try em, of course...

Current pictures of what I like.

Sennheiser fan I guess. The 595, the 600 and the 800.

Sony DVP-S9000ES player to the DNA Sonnet using SignalCable interconnects and Monoprice power cables.

Crawling was crack, now headphones are the new crack.

New purchase, JVC HA-FXC51 in ears. $24 from Amazon. Supposedly, they're quite decent with some proper EQ work. I'm not a fan of EQ, but since the iPod isn't the most revealing source anyways, I can deal with it. I bought the EQu app, as it's been rating highly enough to pay $3.00 for it. It's a neat, kinda parametric EQ offering 1000 bands of adjustments with different slopes you can futz with using your fingers.

EQu - the quality equalizer

Add the Meelectronics A151, Grado SR80i, Grado HF-1 and reshelled TF10's to that list, as well as a Fiio E9 amp. Looking at getting a Fiio E7 when funds allow and maybe a new amp.

Oh man! You got a HF1!? Bet that wasn't cheap.

Did you read/hear about the new Grado PS500 being the same thing as the HF2?

Well, the HF-1 wasn't cheap but I think I got a killer deal on it!

Also, I haven't read any reviews on the HF-2 but if that's true, I really hope that'll maybe push HF-2 prices down. I want to have both of the headphones in the Head-Fi series.

Now I'm looking into getting another amp as well and using the Fiio E9 as an E7 dock only. Debating between the Schiit Asgard or the Millet MiniMax. I want to do some DIY but at the same time I hear the Asgard is amazing with Grados.

The Millet is that M^3 thing that people talk about, yeah?

I understand that's supposed to be quite good.

I have the Audio Technica A700s and Sennheiser 555s (with the 595 foam mod). I use an HT Omega Claro Halo sound card and my Marantz SR4001. Nothing too special but enough to get lost in good sound. :D

I think my Senn 595 gets more head time than any other headphone that I have, except for whatever I'm using while at work. They're quite comfortable and don't squeeze my head too much, and sound pretty decent. They don't have any bad traits really, nothing offensive sounding. Though they're no HD 600 or HD 800...

I just defoamed my HD 600 yesterday. And for the heck of it I put the foam between my ears and the MM60iP I have and there was a definite muffling and volume reducing effect, more than I would have imagined a piece of semi transparent foam would achieve.

I can see this new addiction getting worse right before my eyes.

I just bought some new IEMs for $7.11 plus shipping which put them at $8.99

I got them from Monoprice, which has extraordinarily cheap pricing on decent quality stuff, especially cables.

For only $6.06 each when QTY 50+ purchased - Enhanced Bass Hi-Fi Noise Isolating Earphones | EarPhones

For nine bucks who can resist? Though I care not for the "enhanced bass" part, I can deal with it, especially if I use the EQu app on the Touch. I got these for work, as I'm trying to drown out as much outside noise as possible, while still sounding decent, and costing as little as possible.

As of yesterday when I ordered around 7 pm EST, there were 203 in stock, now there's only 146. New flavor of the month over on head-fi.
