Headphone listeners

Thanks! That just made my decision. I'm gonna go back to best buy Friday and pick up the s4i. Same as the s4 but they have a mic. They seem to be a great option for me after reading that thread.

Cool, keep us informed about how you like them. And how did you read and decide all that in seven minutes? :D

I'm really digging my newest acquisition, the Ultimate Ears TF 10s. They're pretty much in my ears from 5 pm until I pass out around midnight. They're on the softer/easier to listen to side of things out of the iPod Touch or Video and have a decent amount of clarity to them that I don't feel the need for much more for casual listening. For now. My big rig is in the other room and it's only 43 degrees in there, so no thanks.

haha i didn't read the whole thing, still working on it. but i did read the first few pages and it sounds like they are right up my alley. i won't have all the funds i need back in my bank account for a few days so i have some time to do more research on them before my purchase. you mentioned burning yours in with white noise, where can i get a white noise mp3?

to eeepee regarding your response: yeah i can understand not having tested everything out there that advice is hard to give on some things. reading through that headphonia article he holds them in pretty high regard for what you pay...good sign at least. i think those will be my next set, the wallet is the determining factor on this, i enjoy music, but i enjoy making things as well....and tools are easier to get a hold of around here. thanks for that link, really appreciate it. probably have hands on on those after christmas.

an update, so far my auvio's have been holding up well and sound comes across clearly to my untrained ears. they really come into their own when used with the pioneer head unit for gaming, very clear and well worth dragging the chair to the tv. the real thing that is appreciated around the house is that they leak almost no sound.

yeah there was a couple pages of debate on that s4 thread about whether or not burn in is merely psychological or not, but i figure if i do the burn in it will make a difference one way or the other so i might as well. i am also looking at the RE-0 as well, but the fact that they don't have an RE-0 with a microphone is kind of a turn off for me. that and i am kind of a bass junky, so from what i've read on the s4 thread as well as the huge review of IEMs, the s4's are still looking most favorable.

The burn in debate can get silly. For me it's easy. I know mechanical devices loosen up as they are used, and then I believe my brain is smarter than me and it will adjust on its own to make me happy.

yup i think it's probably a 50/50 mental change and actual change. it's kinda like when you get a new RC, you might hate it at first until you get used to it and learn how it works then you love it! i was looking on head-direct.com and they have some cheap headphone amps, would it be worth investing in one of the cheap ones that are less than $20, or should i not even bother?

i figured that's what you'd say, but since they're that cheap i know i could squeeze one past my wife if it was worth it :lmao:

i did read a couple posts that say these sound better than shire e3c's, which really makes me feel like they are right. i had two pairs of e2c's, and i loved the sound of them but both pairs had one ear go out so i gave up on them

i got my Klipsch s4i's today. i have to say, out of the box i'm really impressed. they sound better than my shure e2c's did, and a hell of a lot better than the skull candy ones. the bass isn't quite as boomy as the skull candy's were, but i think i will get used to it and appreciate it. there are some songs where there is a little bit of overpowering treble in these as compared to the skull candy's, but i think after i've burned them in it will be better if what i've read about them is right. if i decide i want some more of the low end that i had with my skull candys, i can make some custom silicone sleeves for them that makes them fit like a custom IEM.

so far, i am loving them! they are comfortable and having the volume controls and in line microphone are a huge plus!

Still liking those S4s? Ever since I went from the Comply foams to the largest tip I've become a lot more satisfied with my UE Triple 10s I got. The Complys are comfortable first, isolating second, then somewhere around sixth or seventh are they good sounding. They're mufflers, and really make an impact on the sound, not in a good way in my opinion. I was surprised to be jamming the largest tips in my ears, but the bass is deepest and most defined, and the rest is smooth. Still a bit recessed in the midrange, but not nearly as bad as with the Comply foamies.

I made it up to my Dad's place this weekend and brought two iPods of ALAC lossless music with me to get reacquainted with my old Grado SR-60s. Hah, they're a funny thing. Practically no soundstage width to speak about at all, and a treble that makes my Senn HD 800s sound dull and boring. Bass was lethargic and didn't go very deep really, almost like an octave above the open string on a bass guitar (42 Hz by the way), then a major nosedive to inaudible. Made for some wimpy Les Claypool guitar and thin bass drum whacks.

Also, not once, but twice my iPod Touch took a dive out of my hoodie pocket into the toilet before I started peeing in it. And it works still. I'm a bigger fan of Apple now than before.

haha that's awesome that it survived that once, much less twice!! i am still loving my s4i's, we got an xbox and i have actually been using them to play cuz they add a whole new experience to the games. i used to have some decent gaming headphones, and these sound better! if i could adjust the volume of them and chat volume independently i would be solely using them.

and i can't call this "definitive", but when i got them and had basically zero play time on them there was one song that had some ear piercing cymbals on the s4i's, when it came to the part in the song with that cymbal i had to turn it way down, but i noticed when it came on again when i had about 70-75 hours on them that it was no longer unbearable, and actually sounded nice and crisp.

i am going to take some foam ear plugs and soak some water in them and freeze them to be able to easily drill them out to use with the s4i's and see how it sounds. the bass sounds good as it is, but i would like a bit more oomph. if the foam ear plugs don't do the trick i will figure out a way to make some custom formed silicone ones like i had on my skull candys. i didn't worry about the skull candy ones because they were cheap, but i don't want silicone getting down in the tube on the s4i's.

I was thinking about this thread. Why? Because today my JVC FXC51s lost the right channel. Why was I using those at work? Because my Skullcrapper Jibs lost the right channel a couple weeks ago. Skullcandies at $10 is no big deal and really neither are the $25 JVCs, but I actually liked the JVCs. I plan to get another pair, but in the meantime I learned my lesson, nothing over ~$10 for work. Which means more Skullcandies, so I bought another set of Jibs, and their Ink'd ones because they were on sale for $13.

The Triple Fis don't get as much attention these days really, as I found the mids to be really recessed to me. While some people really love them things, that missing central foundation of music bugs me a bit. I don't mind a little extra fatty bass, but if the mids and highs are off, I'm thrown off. They're like listening to a measured fairly flat headphone, with the loudness button turned on. The famous U shaped "fun" curve... that makes Skrillex sound pretty sweet, but not so much with music with real instruments.

What else... I added foam inside the ear cups of my Sennheiser HD 800s. A top of the line headphone needed mods? Yep, it sure did.

Here's what it did. Was the green line, now it's the yellow line, or close to it as those aren't my measurements.

I was fully happy with them except I always thought my HD 600s could groove along to the bass lines better, but not anymore.

so yesterday i went to work and i forgot my klipsch s4i's, so luckily i had my skull candy's in my desk. i was glad that i found them til i put them on, i've gotten so used to how good the s4i's sound that the skull candy's sounded like absolute shit. i won't be forgetting them again any time soon.... "thumbsup"
