Headphone listeners

well i ended up deciding i didn't prefer the beats urbeats over my s4i's and decided to jump into some on-ears since i got to have some time listening to the "mainstream" options, aka the ones available at best buy so i can get a discount. i listened to the beats lineup and wasn't impressed. i checked out the SOL republic, klipsch, and sony lineup and they all sounded a bit better than the beats. i ended up settling on these bad boys, and i could not be happier. i've only had them 24 hours and i've probably had them on about 16 of that! Monster DNA, camo special edition. part of the proceeds go to 3 charities that support veterans and their family so it's good on the conscience as well.

they have a great sound across all styles of music, especially when i mess with the custom EQ on my iPhone. i wanted something that can do bass without lacking in the rest of the frequency range and these can definitely do that. i was able to set up an EQ where they bump as hard as beats by dr dre do without sacrificing much in the mids/highs.

Congrats! I know the feeling of having headphones on for the better part of your day awake because you don't want to take them off cause they're awesome. It's a good feeling and especially when you just got a bunch of new albums that are all pretty good listens.

It creates those, "Hey, where did the last two hours go?" moments.

These beat anything else that costs $20! If you like a small stage they will beat things that cost lots! For only $20.88 each when QTY 50+ purchased - Premium Hi-Fi DJ Style Over-the-Ear Pro Headphone | HeadPhones

After putting a hundred hours or so into these things, I have to say I am thoroughly impressed. They are just so amazingly accurate. At anything but extremely high listening levels they are just perfect. I have grown to appreciate the small stage, and since my main stereo has such wide imaging it's a nice contrast.

Though they are powerful in the low end, I don't find it overbearing at all. "thumbsup"

My intensive headphone listening is limited to Grado 80's and sony mdr v600 so my words might not speak with much authority, but I would easily compare these things in quality of reproduction to my Tandberg stereo.

for birthmas, i got to order a pair of Superlux HD688B's. 47 on amazon and about the highest ranked budget over the ears on head-fi. my auvio headphones are starting to develop some major issues, one being the headband. the adjustment portion is about shattered on both sides, and the yokes holding the cans are starting to feel some real stress. another issue is the cord on the auvio's. the plug is starting to be touchy about working, and in general the cord is in sad shape. i could spend the time and money to redo the cord issues, but then i'm still stranded with a headband that slips off for like no reason and also catches my hair.

Superlux HD-668 B

there was much research into these, major complaints being the piercing treble at first and the headband nubs digging in. now the piercing treble is something i can deal with for a while, especially since my hearing in that range is well on its way to shot anyway. the headband nubs are just going to take some breaking in. what really drove me to these over their cheaper sister set is the replaceable cord (included are 2 different lengths). now i go from gaming on the console through the head unit to music on the computer to mobile music. the different length cords combined with the plug and play aspect of them are very attractive to me since playing console games from only 4 feet away makes my eyes buggy, and when on the move, i hate dragging around a long cord around. also, plugs can degrade over time when subjected to constant movement.

i'll do a full report when they arrive "thumbsup"

I just received some Audio Technica ATH-M50s headphones for Christmas. So far they sound great on my phone, I can't wait to get them on something with some power to see how they really sound! Anyone recommend a phone equalizer app that works well? Also probably going to be looking for a headphone amplifier to use with an iPod when traveling, any recommendations?

does that EQ work with iTunes match? i recently subscribed to match so i could free up some space on my computer and iPhone and i'm struggling to find an EQ app that doesn't make me download the song to my phone first. i've already gone through a few free ones and a couple $.99 but don't wanna keep wasting money on EQ apps that don't do what i need them to

I don't know but I doubt it. It works off your library on the iPod.

I'm still liking my Pioneer SE-M390's after a bit over a year of having them. They've broken in nicely, everything is more crisp sounding, except for maybe really high notes. The bass is pretty good, but I'd say lower-mid to mid is where they sound the best, I just like being able to hear each instrument now, instead of before with them all mashing together. The only thing I don't like about them is the extremely long cord.

I have had a pair of Sennheisser HD 428s headphones for a while now and am fairly happy with them. The bass isn't anything to write home about, but for the price (IIRC, they were $50) they are pretty nice. They fit well and aren't heave at all. They can also withstand the abuse that my 3 y/o boy gives them...

got the hd668's today! just a short review on them here.

Size wise, these are large, easily covering most of my ears. only thing sticking out are my ear lobes, and some of that is due to the 0g plugs i have in right now. build wise, very solid. the plastics used are very robust, and the headband is solid as well. the AT style head nubs are also supported by wire and not just a plastic piece. the cords included feel high quality, thick with a soft covering terminating in a nice plrug on each end. there is a cable clip included that holds the female end on the male end coming out of the headphones that holds the cord solidly.

comfort wise, i find them very comfortable. the AT style nubs aren't digging in like expected and the clamping pressure is on the strong side, but i don't feel like its anything terrible. the foam on both the nubs and the ear cups is soft and the pleather covering is just as soft. i find nothing comfort wise to complain about.

sound wise, they kill the auvios and then piss on their remains for good measure. bass is clear but not over-powering, the mids are solid and shine with these. the highs do get a little distracting, but i don't burn in headphones...i'll either get used to it or eq them down a touch. the sound stage is much wider than the auvio's and the "immersion" (how much you feel a part of the music) is just out of the park.

been digging the lindsey stirling and i have to say that the superlux headphones make listening to her music that much better.

I was a huge stereo nerd, I mean Audiophile, not too long ago. I have a VPI record player that cost about three times the amount of the expensive comp trucks, used decent ancillary equipment and all that including home built 2A3 tubed monoblocks, a SACD player, and what have you. Cables costing more than I would admit. I've also owned Grado SR60 headphones since 1994 and used them for so many hours I couldn't even begin to imagine. The Grado SR60s are world renowned for being great sounding, but from more of the bang for the buck car navigation system approach. I've enjoyed them immensely, no doubt. If you have $75 to spend on music, you will enjoy them no question, no matter what.

Since computer Hi-Fi is finally a reality and headphones are more conducive to my environment right now, I'm searching for the next level, actually, more like a purchase that I'd be happy with for the next who knows how many years. Price is irrelevant, but the +$1000k headphones might be a tad overkill. But I've looked at Grado's RS line, 325i and of course Sennheiser 650s and even AKG 701 or 702s.

You guys do any headphone listening?

I love to listen music with headphone but I think they are still expensive.

update on the superlux's:

these headphones are just getting more comfortable and better sounding the more i use them. i don't pull a burn in cycle, i use them to get everything moving well.

the sound clarity is just great, hearing pick strikes clearly and all those little nuances that i just completely missed before is great! one place they really shine are backup vocals. where the auvio's would muddy up the backup vocals, the superlux's do not, all singing is clear as day. the bass response is very clear, no distortion of other things in song, and the very bright highs have toned back a bit with use.

for gaming and movie use, its hard to go back to the house stereo after using these. gaming is a very strong point with these, as i mentioned previously the soundstage is very wide. hearing an enemy's footsteps or a puzzle unlocking is great for playing, and movies just sound amazing. vocal clarity from the actors and action scenes have a new voice as well.
