i recently purchased a 7.2v 4500 NiMh battery pack from cheapbatterypacks.com (awesome place) and my normal charger wasnt gonna cut it. so i was given this one.

my question is, it looks like the charger itself needs to be somewhat programmed to my battery pack and i dont know how to do that. when it was given to me i didnt get a manual and it has never been used so i dont know if there is some kind of "stock" setting the come pre programed with. any help would be awesome.

also, does anyone know how long it will take to charge this 4500? i know the life of the battery depends on the draw i just dont know how long it will take to charge.

If you're plugging it into the wall outlet, the Tower link says 3 amps is the maximum. Set it for 3 amps. If you're charging it from a DC power source, set it for 4.5 amps.

If you charge it at 4.5 amps, it will take one hour to fully charge that 4500 mah battery you have. That is called a 1C charge rate, and 1C is the normal, basic, everyday charge rate. C stands for capacity, your battery is a 4500. If you charge it at 3 amps, it will take longer, approximately mathematically whatever 3 into 4.5 is, longer. And hour and 20 minutes or whatever.

Set the threshold right about in the middle of the range for now, and make an attempt to notice how hot, warm, or cool the batteries are when the charger is done. You want them a bit warmer than warm to the touch when they peak. You can adjust that by adjusting the threshold peak of the charger, and you'll probably end up around 7 to 10 mV.

If none of that helps, here's the instructions from the non Tower version of that charger.
