Hera revisited

Great job bringing her back to life! I'm excited to see someone enjoying her. :) Have fun!

Sunday is the last comp in this NIRC season. As soon as it's over, I'm going to do the transmission swap.

I've decided to wait till then because Buxom Melons is performing so well, she's won the last 5 comps in a row! I think she'll be even tougher with an Axial trans in her.

I plan on setting up Hera very simular to Buxom Melons, so I have high hopes for her "thumbsup"

My 2nd set of AR60 universals showed up the other day... I should be about set with the build components.

Hera is up and running "thumbsup"

I just went for a little spin on 4s. I think the 55t was actually faster than
the 14t puller.
Low end control in 1st gear is amazing! I may need to move
down a spur size though as 2nd was a little slower than I'd like.
The 4ws is working. I need a bec, throttle keeps cutting out when turning.
The 2 speed is working.
She's running 4 fully loaded Mayhem Engineering Double Fatties.
I'll most likely add more weight to them.
The wheel base is 13.875"
Both axles have VP Knuckles, CHubs, 4 link Truss and Axial Universals
The front shocks are Traxxas 3.5" and the rear are Wraith shocks.
I still need to install the lockers.
There seems to be a lot of front end slop.
It seems like all the rod ends are a little loose in there mounts...
like the pillow balls are to small for the Wraith mounts.

you can see how low the Summit trans sits in the chassis, the top is about the same height as the top of the shock tower.
A much lower cog than when I had it in Buxom Melons.

I made a shock tower sway bar for the rear plastic towers, like I have in Melons.

I think I'm going to need to drill a couple holes in the chassis for the rear upper links.
This is a temporary setup, it's working but limits flex, I have about 2/3 of a tire.

I bent the front upper links to clear the drive shaft. Now they are a little short.
I'll extend them to pitch the axle more... and get a better drive shaft angle.
There seems to be added slop in the front end with the bent links...
I still need a panhard bar.
Ryan created a mounting point on the chassis but I'll need to get a Dinky truss for the axle.

For some reason, I had to add a lot of space in both drag links to center the servo.
And, the tie rod too...

The 4ws is working fine in all modes thanks to Harley's easy to follow video."thumbsup"

I was running a 15/54 gear combo with my summit 2spd. It seemed perfect. Lots of speed and still low gearing. All the info is in my 1:8 jeep build in this section.

I need to check and se what I have in there now... I should of done it when I installed the motor but I was to excited to get it running to stop and count teeth!

Here's a pic of the rear axle... see all the space in the drag link
Do I have this on wrong?

That's weird. Is that the STRC drag link? Did the VP truss mount shift the servo over by chance?

I think it is, it came with the axles and I haven't looked it up...

but, DL's is the same way... except I have space in the drag and tie rod

I can understand the drag link, cause I'm running it up to a CMS... but the tie rod?

you aint got the old vp knuckle arms do you?

i forget if they were too long or too short, but it seems it could be your problem.

Could be the arms?

I haven't heard from anyone else about my tie rod but, on my truck there was space on both sides of the tie rod. It still bit into the rod end to be plenty strong and I put a little black oring in there to make it look better. Could be because I hand bent each of those rods. They aren't all exact probably. You could try tweaking it in a vice and see what happens.. It might close up the gap a little but, at the same time it will probably grow further away off the front of the axle.

Is this the Wraith end that you told me about?

yup, it's a nice part but you have to clock your axle much more than this to get a good drive shaft angle. I'm going to put some Jato rod ends on, that'll straighten it out ;-)
I'd like it on the trans side but the Summit has the larger output... 8mm I think. I could drill it and have a wobbly drive shaft...

To loosely quote Doc. Brown: If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 22.2 volts on 6s lipo... you're gonna see some serious shit.

The HH 14t puller is a beast on 6s

It's currently 14/68.
When I first installed the Summit trans in Buxom Melons, it was running a VXL and I was trying to get as much torque from it as I could... the 68t spur is the largest that will fit.

I just ordered 3 spurs... 54/56/58
I bought them on ebay and didn't actually intend on buying the 56...
I was trying to ask the seller if I could get combined shipping and after I typed in my question... I hit buy instead of respond

I was looking for a store that had the 54, 58 and 62. No one had all 3.
I think I'll stick with my 14t pinion for a while... I may still get that 62t.

Hera is now running 13/58 down from 13/68 gearing.
I'll see how it goes... still might need to order the 63t spur.
Felsenfest spools
The first CC BEC showed up
I plan to get a second
Waiting on 2 BEC bypass wires from Creation Fab.
I decided to get a set of 2.2 IROK's next week
I'm still undecided on the radio... I might get the FlySky...

She's coming together!
